I haven't, planning on going there in September. Only had a weekend last year to get to as many as I could.

Don't forget Olde Mecklenburg, outstanding beers I wish I could find on tap here, I'm 2 hours away from the brewery. Competition is and will continue to drive the industry here, if your looking for an IPA and HDR is on the shelf it's a no brainer, so the competition does a better job or they lose money. I can see a lot of tweaked IPA recipes or completely new offerings coming, mediocre IPA's might as well never be brewed and canned, there will be no reason to buy them.

From what I understand, if you are outside the greater charlotte metro, store owners have to drive to get HDR. A few shops in Asheville do it, Peabodys in Boone, and some raleigh shops. I hear it sells out within the day every time though.

Good to hear Trophy and Burial getting some love in here. Both among the smallest operations in the state, but both cranking out really good beer. Burial is only open a few days a week though, so I think a lot of people miss them when swinging through Asheville.

Anybody here mention Sub Noir in Raleigh. Awesome small batch brewery. http://subnoir.net/

I think their pizza is reasonably priced. $18 or so for a large that has a bunch of great local ingredients. My girlfriend and I can't come close to finishing a large in one sitting. Trophy is by far my favorite in the triangle.

Was just there this weekend. Had a growler of Daniel's Double (which was outstanding) and had a few pints of Rye'd That.
Everything that I've had from them has been solid - Longleaf, Say Hops Again, Black Gold, Honey Badger. Haven't had one of their ciders yet - the Mint Cider kicked as soon as we sat down

Peabody's is no longer getting NoDa ...... at least HopDrop. They used to drive there but are now unable to get enough from them to justify the trip anymore

I will also toss a shout out to Natty Green, as up and coming in NC, and their sour brews. They have some terrific Sour's rivaling Wicked Weed, in particular the Sorghum.

While i agree that most of the Raleigh breweries are average at best, at least people here are drinking local micros en masse instead of sucking down light macros day in and day out. The bottle shop scene in Raleigh is really where it's at, everyone knows that.

True. Seems like a new bottle shop opening up in Raleigh every week...

Yeah, I really have never had a bad beer there. Obviously some are better than others, but I think they have a really good business model and look to enjoy them for years to come. I really like the recent version of their Saison V5.

I think you're right, because Bottle Revolution in Raleigh has made a few trips to Charlotte in the past to pick that deliciousness up.

5-10 years ago, what's happening here now would have been a fool's dream. We have a highly diverse populace, good education, plenty of disposable income, creative young people, and lots of old German souls. We are lucky and it's happening very rapidly.
