Your choice is simple: Coke or Pepsi.

Maybe your problem is that you put 10 cubes of sugar in your coffee..... :astonished:

Others mentioned ambers or pilsners and I agree. A few recommendations IMO would be:
    Newcastle Brown
    Bells Amber
    XX Amber
Or malty pilsners like Stoudts or Scrimshaw
If they still make Dragon Stout, that should be right in your wheelhouse! (very sweet)
    Cheers!

I saw a few posts mentioning fruits and sours. Definitely do this. Whenever someone in my family says they don't like beer, I take them out to the porch and hand them a Westbrook Gose. Now they like beer.

I, too, enjoy sweeter maltier beers over hoppy, bitter beers. Try a barrel-aged barleywine or imperial stout. Be prepared for an intensity of flavors and sweetness. Pick up a Goose Island bourbon County Brand Stout if you can.

hahaha, I didn't mean like that! I meant it should be difficult to go out and find the beers you like. You should scour your local store trying to find hard to find beers and things up your alley. You might not like some of the things you are drinking, so you learn from it and shy away from certain styles. Any hobby starts off difficult then it gets easier once you establish some skill. Insert any other hobby and that should remain true (cooking, playing sports, etc.). Like Lebron James is awful in the clutch, so when a game is on the line he passes it because he just can't ever be clutch. That's why through his knowledge of his hobby (which turned into a profession) he constantly abandons ship and changes teams because he can't win by himself. He's no Michael Jordan and he knows that. He's the best at using his frame to complete layups. He's the best layup basketball player our generation has ever seen. If you find IPAs to be awful, pass that beer like Lebron James in the 4th quarter with 3 seconds left on the clock.

Sounds like you have diabetes. 10 sugar cubes in your coffee? You might want to try pouring a breakfast stout into a pint glass, adding at least 5 tbsp of sugar and stirring vigorously. That should suit your palate.

I would add that based on your statement that you've only tried a dozen or so craft beers, your palate may just not be developed to appreciate and really taste them yet. That would also explain your difficulty in picking up on subtle flavors.

I would reccomend continuing to try different examples of the various styles. You'll either slowly start to enjoy some, or confirm that you just dont like beer. (The first 6-7 IPAs i tried, I hated, but now they are a favorite. Ditto for barleywines. But I've tried over 25 hefeweizens, and still haven't found one I like.)

Most BMC beers are merely non-offensive alcohol delivery devices. Craft drinkers aren't worried about being offended by bolder, more pronounced flavor, aroma and texture. You don't like the bold characters of craft beer, or becoming even a little inebriated.... This is not the site for you. Collect whatever data you have been seeking from this social experiment and move along. If this is not some experiment.. then I've got to call Troll ask the thread be shut down.

Ok so I found it a bit ironic that you said this:

    after earlier having said this:

So you're tasting smoke and coffee in beers that weren't made with smoke or coffee (sometimes they are, though that wasn't really what you were getting at). Those two flavors are definitely more obvious, but if you're picking up on those why would you think that people don't notice more subtle flavors in beers?

Im not trying to pick on you, just pointing out that maybe you're jumping the gun a little bit. Give it a year, two years, five years, then revisit this thread and see if what you're saying now still makes sense to you.

As far as finding a beer you like, what beers DO you like? Figure out what it is about them that you like, and expand from that. Nobody says you have to love stouts, though I suspect that eventually you will start to appreciate them more and more. Bottom line is, keep drinking beer. Unless you really have no desire to keep exploring.

It is quite obvious that the OP has a sugar addiction. (Long overwritten posts are a symptom) His first step is to break that addiction, once he does he will notice that there are lots of other tastebuds in his mouth. Until then he will only seek out the sugar that gives him a seratonin rush.

its like Wine....no wine is ACTUALLLY MADE with peaches....but you taste them....you taste lime, but theres no actual lime in them....its a pallet you develop over time. Start over....try Kona Longboard, or shoot, start with Sam Adams Boston lager....start simple, you're thinking tooo hard about trying to find a beer you "Should" like.

I can assure you that I do enjoy liquors and beers.

My suggestion is save your money for sugar cubes, dont drink beer.
