With a heavy heart and a great deal of reluctance, I am going to pass... it seems as though in the last 2 years since having one, I have blocked out how consuming infants are. I wouldn't want anyone to suffer me being a slacker sender.

Thanks for letting us know. I feel like we should send you little tiny boxes of beer periodically so you can start training your newest addition to be as good a helper as her big sister is...

All, I will also have to pass this round.

As far as the Sixterhood of the traveling beer, I'm still in for this one.

Speaking of the sixterhood, is that officially a traditional BIF now, or is it just a 6shipper that we've all agreed to use over and over for boxes within the thread?

It is somewhat ambiguous at this point...

Speaking of..... (sorry I haven't gotten to this sooner)

I got with @heystevec to discuss this since our original agreement was for me to send the Sixterhood box back to him. We have altered the plan and the Sixterhood box will now be going to someone else. I am also going to send 3-4 bottles in a separate box back to heystevec so that he will have some nice beers to drink while the Sixterhood box is making its rounds for hopefully what will be a long period of time.

I enjoy the suspense/surprise part of the BIF process so I would like to bring some of that into this process. Here is my idea on how to work the Sixterhood box:
    1) The current holder of the Sixterhood box would make a post in the Locals BIF thread saying that the signup period to be the next recipient is open and will be open for 2 or 3 days. Anyone that would like to be a potential target for the box would send their address information in a BM to the current holder of the box.

    2) After the signup period is over, the current holder would randomly pick the next recipient of the Sixterhood box. They would not announce this person, but instead start posting hints as to where the box is going (BIF style hints). If no one signed up to be the next recipient, then the filled box would be returned to heystevec (hopefully without him knowing that it is coming to him).

    3) The holder of the Sixterhood box would fill the box with high quality local bottles or wants and ship it to the target. Make it a kickass box, but with this group of people I know we won't have to worry about that.

    4) Once the box is received by the target, they will post the pr0n for all to enjoy.

    5) Start over at #1
You do not have to enter every signup period. You can pick and choose when you want to be in consideration to be the next recipient. This would be nice if the current holder of the box is from your own state or an adjoining state or if you are going to be out of town for a while or whatever. Jump in and out as you please.

Question: Should the people that have already received the Sixterhood box once be allowed to enter again in a future signup period? (I think heystevec should be the final decision maker on this question since this would prolong the period of time before he gets the box back as the final recipient).

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

Some nice ideas in here, I kinda like the idea of coming and going as you please, but let's add that there should be a list inside the box of who has already gotten it (add your target's name before you send it off) so that someone can't forget (on purpose or not) that they've already gotten it; if once it gets back to @heystevec he wants to get it going again, those people will again be eligible.

The SWTFYW BIAB (BIF in a box, we're calling is Sixterhood) has a couple other things that go into their box, some would perhaps be appropriate here and some not. Off the top of my head, theirs is a 12 shipper and some bottles are not taken (in round 1 it was take 6 leave 6, in round 2 it's take 9 leave 3).

In round 2, there also are covered bottles, so that you have to gamble on leaving something known behind to take something unknown instead. Also new to round 2 is a "challenge bottle" where the person who puts in the bottle attaches a challenge to be done, and if completed the recipient can take that bottle in addition to the others, provided they post proof of the challenge being done. Obviously these only work if you're leaving some behind, we could do take 4 leave 2, for example.

The SWTFYW BIAB also ended up being a shipper inside a bigger box, to accommodate extras, glassware, swag, etc; also on a "replace whatever you take" basis.

We certainly don't have to do any of these things, but I like them all and wouldn't mind including some or all of them.

I think this is a great idea -- and I actually also like this part...

You are basically having a separate mini-BIF within our BIF; if I see someone from someplace I haven't tried beer from, I can sign up, if I'm lucky get a box, send back a "thank you" box (which might be 3-4 bottles), and then send onward to the next interested target. Or did I oversimplify (or overcomplicate) things just now?

That's not too complicated, it basically is a BIF and a BIB (beer it backward) at the same time. That might be a bit much for some recipients though, to refill the Sixterhood and send a box to your sender simultaneously. Conceptually I like it, but I wouldn't want it to hurt participation.

As a part of the traveling Sixterhood, I wasn't proposing to send the 3-4 bottles back to your sender. I am doing that for heystevec as a thank you for getting this whole thing started. It wasn't meant to be a part of the regular process, but can be if that is what everyone wants to do.

I was planning on doing that a kind of a 'surprise' to the first recipient, but now that it has been brought up..... I was going to add a piece of cardboard inside the box with the names and then was also going to attach a sticker on it from a local brewery. I thought it would be fun to see where all the box had been.

Let's execute the plan. Open to anyone who has participated in any part of this thread (Round 1, Summer 6er, and Round 2 - upcoming) that way people who are studying, taking a break, short on cash, etc but still want to dabble can get their fix.
as for all the SWTFYW add-ons, I say lets leave it as just sending 6 brews that you want others to try/want to hook up a fellow 'Local' with.

Let's start with a goal of 5-10 rounds? When the desire to send (I understand there will be a lull in interest once the main BIF 2nd round kicks off) the 'Sixterhood' begins to wind down I will call her back home - take her out to pasture, buy a new one and start up the 2nd circumnavigation ....

    take it away ... @rspauldi

As a point of interest, are we calling the Summer 6er "Round 2" and the upcoming one "Round 3"? It may sound like nitpicking right now, but in 6 months or a year it'll be nice to have a definitive answer, so we're not still confused as to "is this round 8 or 9?"
