I can see how people ask for it, the first time I ever tried it was in CA early 2013, the reason being is that it wasn't sold in FL till July 2013. Fat Tire is not my favorite of their beers but it isn't bad.

I've probably drank more than I have any other craft beer. Still like it. Wish I had some right now...

What leads to think that the store buyers of 12 packs you see leads to them being daily drinkers of it and not people in to buy a 12 pack for a tailgate party, weekend BBQ, house party, vacation trip to the beach or mountains? Those are situations I would usually think that store purchases of Fat Tire would usually be, not the daily beer drinker with a standard craft choice. I'm sure they are out there for Fat Tire, but I just don't see that as a standard beer for most habitual, repetitive beer consumers.

Forgive me I guess I like a amber lager over a amber ale.

Thanks for the convo I know it was stupid, but I am in the business of selling beer and it's a recurring question. I really thank you for everyone's input

Because they walk straight to the spot, grab a 12, and head for the checkout. While I'm looking at bottled on dates for Racer 5 vs Sucks, pricing Matilda 4 packs vs Funkwerks Tropic King, etc...

If you travel it's pretty likely you'll end up with a couple hour layover in the Denver airport. You take a look around for something to do; probably something to eat & drink since there's nothing else to do - you get to New Belgium hub and find you actually are really enjoying a beer instead of being bored. Then you think 'wow if they sold this back home I'd get it all the time'.

I don't know what the buzz about Fat Tire is. Maybe people are confusing "Fat Tire" with "New Belgium." They are in the process of opening a second brewery in NC, so that would make sense that your patrons are wondering when distro will make it up there. Just speculating.

It's an old school beer. It's the OG of Amber Ales if you will.

Yep. That's a regular Fat Tire customer. I didn't think of the most obvious situation. You got me! :-)

Not much on an Amber beer guy, Fat Tire is everywhere here, it's the Sam Adams for today, a crossover beer for guys who drink BMC stuff and want a better beer. I don't like it much, but that's me. Not surprised guys look for it where it isn't available though.

Fat Tire was my first experience in enjoying a beer that I would later learn that I could not obtain back home. It was about 9 years ago in a Los Angeles hotel bar. Before that, I was only familiar with the craft beer that was available at my local shops. I even obliviously trekked out to Julio's in Westborough in search of it thinking, hell they must have it, they have everything! Sadly, this is where I learned that it was not distributed further than the mid-west (at that time). Over the years I've gotten my hands on plenty of Fat Tire and have since moved on, but I'm sure there are still many that share my experience that have yet to.

Even after all of these years I still really enjoy Fat Tire. There's nothing else quite like it. That malt profile is almost unmatched. I'll take a cold fresh one over about 99% of other beers.
