I may have to take you up in this offer. Will certainly let you know my thoughts. Haven't had many rum barrel beers so am very curious.

 

My 1k badge is some random beer from Green Man that I don't think was ever very good. When I was coming up on 2500 (which was the highest badge at the time until 5k and 10k were released a week or two after I hit 2500) I screwed it up and was about to check into a crap beer for 2500. So I went and deleted the checkin to the good beer I'd just had (Love Child 4), checked into the crap beer, and then went and checked back into the Love Child 4 just to have a good beer for the badge Still a ways to go yet before I hit 5k. Will have to think about something good.

 

Agree with the Oil of Aphro being hot today. @Ncpogs I would put that bad boy in the cellar for a bit, we have secondary action pending I will send you a regular Oil with that WC you requested so you can taste the base beer and let that rum barrel settle a bit.

Glad to know I'm not the only nerd out there who would do something stupid like this just to have a better beer represented on the badge haha.

 

I celebrated my 1000th Untappd checkin with my first Westvleteren XII, and then my 1000th BA tick with Zwanze beer

For the Zwanze checkin I didn't delete anything, but I did check in my Zwanze day beers in reverse order so that Zwanze was first for the day. (not that Cantillon Iris Grand Cru would've been a horrible 1000th, but I wanted it to be the Zwanze beer )

 

Packages are on time set to be delivered tomorrow.

I hit my 500 Utapped checkin last night. Was not anything special. Just a local steam beer. Half way to 1000

My 500th was HF Arthur. I had planned ahead, and had scheduled Black Note for #500, but then the Arthur was available on tap locally so I adjusted my plans. I am not even remotely thinking about #1000 yet.

I had done the same thing and planned to check in Chocolate Rain as my 500th while at DLD this year. But then I got drunk and miscounted and that ended up being 499 lol. I'm pretty sure Founders Bolt Cutter was my 500th, still not a bad beer to use. But I can't wait to try Grey Monday for the first time and hit 1,000 unique (not bad for 12 months and 25 days)

 

i use untappd very irregurlarly now that ba has their app. Is it the badges that makes it more attractive for you guys?

 

Yeah, the badges are a big part of it. And I just got used to using it for so long that I hardly think about the BA app. Plus I like the interface for it and it makes it easier to see what all of my friends are drinking as well, which I do like to pay attention to. (I am also a "toast" ***** )

 

Getting close to 1,500th check-in. Not as special as 1,000, but I'm still going to be sure it's something fun.

Not the badges for me, just that I started with Untapped so now transferring all my checkins to BA would take too long.

 

Did a side trade with @UcDru and this is what he dropped on my porch today. Amazing box, with beers I could only dream of. The BCBS is 2012, btw. Thanks, everything arrived safe and sound.

Ha Mike, that is really funny. The building I live in used to be the first school in the town I live. There is a quarry really close by so most of the buildings in Lemont are made of stone. So the whole western wall of my condo is sandstone. That room isn't actually used for anything though, other than taking beer pictures.

 

You beat me by just a bit, 13 months and 8 days for me. Now at 15 months 18 days I'm up to 1223

Badges are fun, but for me there are a few other reasons. The ability to check in each beer I drink, not just each different beer is another part of it, and I also like that they have different check-in listings for vintages, not just because it increases my number, but so I can keep track. It's also nice that ciders and meads are included, and I like that I can put in some tasting notes without it being a formal "review". I see BA as 'ticks' (not even necessarily entered when I'm drinking the beer) and the occasional formal review, and Untappd as more of an online "beer journal"
