I went straight to the source and was at the tap room last night. Had some Damien which is always good. Sadly no Todd the Axe Man, but will be at Darkness Days. YAY

Had four boxes go out Monday, three to people in this BIF. When you spend an entire day hopping around Vermont, you've gotta share the love.

Yeah I'll be there for sure. Never have had the chance to try anything Hill Farmstead, Side Project, and a bunch of other breweries listed. And some of my long time wants like Fou Foune and West Ashley will be there too. Only bought a single session, might have to go back on Sunday :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn't try this time for Citra, such a long drive. What part of CA are you from?

You won't be disappointed by Fou Foune, I finally got to slay that whale this past Sunday and it's delicious. It was a 2010, perhaps because of that there was less fruity apricot than I expected, but it was delicious nonetheless.

Hitting up the tap room tonight for their last night open before they close in order to move to the new brewery. Have fun at Darkness Day!

I'm in San Diego. Have upcoming beer week and hopefully am able to score Veritas tomorrow.

Grew up in San Pedro so would have been nice to return for a beer function, especially Shelton.

question - @treznor & @Lehighace06, Im looking at you. How much beer do you feel comfortable traveling (Southwest) with in your checked luggage. I have 10 cans and 3 bombers already, but I want to add more. I also don't want to go overboard and suffer damage/overweight bag fees!

Remember you get 2 free bags=more beer!

Never flown SW with beer, but the airlines I have flown the answer was "as much as I can fit"

edit: a little more info, when coming home from NorCal, I had a 64oz growler, 14 12oz bottles, 4 16oz, and 2 bombers, spread across two checked bags. Including my clothes etc, it was 97lbs. While drunk/hungover and without a scale I somehow managed to split the bags' weight into 48 and 49 pounds, a hair under the weight limit. To this day I have no clue how I accomplished the feat, but I'm glad I didn't have to chug some Pliny to get the weight down.

Long story short, the above quantity of beer, with a bit of bubble wrap (and some diapers in case of breakage) all made it home safely.

RIP RR growler (broke 4 months later)

Last thing - if you're going to fly with any regularity, invest in a luggage scale; nice easy to use device to weigh your bags before you get to the airport.

My girlfriend said your box landed and looks epic. So ready to get home!
Also to my target, who hasn't been too active on here recently, I will finally be sending out tomorrow or Monday (sorry about the delay, needed more packing materials)

I'd echo @Lehighace06, as much as you can fit. Never flown SW, so don't have any experience there, but have flown a lot with beer. I've fit 5, maybe 6 bombers into a carry-on sized piece of luggage (that I obviously couldn't carry-on then). I usually don't have bubble wrap when I'm doing then, so I use my clothing. I usually take a shirt (I use my dress shirts, but other shirts should work just as well as long as they aren't t-shirts. T-shirts would require a slightly different method since they're thinner), lay a bomber at the bottom and wrap once, then place another bomber and wrap again. With 12/16oz bottles/cans I can usually do three instead of two. Then get a layer of clothing down inside the luggage (this is where my shoes/dopp kit/underwear bundle goes) and place the bottles on top. Try to avoid doing two layers of bottles if at all possible, but sometimes its needed. Then make sure to get clothing all around the outside edge of the luggage as well. Pants work well for that. Then a layer of clothing on top of the bottles and close up the suitcase. Everything should be very snug, no movement, and ABSOLUTELY no clinking. If you can hear a clinking there's a strong chance you'll get home with a wet suitcase.

I've travelling like this over a dozen times easily (maybe getting closer to two dozen now) and never had a problem. In fact, I'm getting ready to head to the airport in about half an hour and I need to go do this as I have some beer with me. This time it was a weeeeee bit too much to fit in the suitcase (15 bombers, 9 12oz bottles, 6 16oz cans), so only the cans are going in the suitcase and everything else is going in two shippers that I brought with me.

I will say that if at this point if I'm carrying more than 3-4 bottles, I almost always try and have a shipper with me and just pack it up. Not getting charged for luggage though makes that much more feasible than whatever the asinine luggage fees are these days though...

This is a good tip and something that many people forget about. I carry a small one with me in my computer bag and its helped a number of times to get the weight distribution right between bags so neither is overweight.
