Haze. With some exceptions like Pliney the Elder and Double Jack, all of the best DIPAs I've had have been hazy...with an opaqueness somewhat like fruit juice. Examples are Dinner, Beer Hates Astronaut, Heady, Crusher, Lawson's Sunshine series, Abner, and Mastermind.

The same things I look for in any IPA. More citrus/fruity/pine forward hops to support any hop bitterness.

Used to dig 90 Minute pretty hard but I wasn't a huge fan of the huge maltiness. I now prefer super citrusy (with some maltiness sure, but not a ton) but with something that follows. Probably explains why I'm not a fan of Stone Go To.

DIPAs tend to be too malty to my palate, so by default I prefer a drier example of the style.

Basically, give me lots of hop flavor, some (not overwhelming) bitterness, and a maltiness that provides additional depth without making it obstructively sweet. Also, I prefer high-falutin' tropical fruit flavors over the traditional grapefruity/piny flavors.

I've never had any of the hyped IPAs from Vermont before, but I still agree. I love hoppy beers that are hazy and unfiltered.

Malt backbone without tasting like a Christmas tree. Balance, not just a bottle of brewers droop.

Balance, citrusy hops....not too much pine, booze well hidden, that gets better when it warms

Like a lot of balance but prefer the less malt sweet and generous hop combo DIPAs.
Loved wormtown brewery' s Hopulence. Resin. Jacks Abbey.
Let's face it balance seems to be a rarity. It seems like its always one or the other. And yes I love Heady etc but I'm talking about beers that are a lot more accessible to all enthusiasts.
