    When Life hands you lemons...

Make (warm chocolaty sweet hopefully-not-laced-with-glass-shard) lemonade... er... stout...

Shuffling the "cellar" around to put a few things aside for trades--bump a couple of bottles, and voila! Guess I'm going big tonight. It's warm, but it's pretty damn yummy too...

I recently was thinking about how far I'd have to move to find someplace that I'd rather live nearby. Then one night I was at a table with Al and asked him the very question. I assumed he might say somewhere in Vermont. His answer was very quick. Munster, IN.

From my experience, Three Floyds falls behind the quality of beer I see coming from Vermont. I can see, however, how someone who has been into craft beer longer than I (which I'm assuming Al has,) finds comfort and bliss in the well-established old school of FFF. Having never actually been to Chicagoland, maybe I'm just not experienced enough to see it.

I suppose that's the beauty of it all, though: people all over the country with such varied tastes, experimenting and sampling to find the one brewer that really moves them. In the current landscape of American craft, we're really spoiled with so much quality and variety.

PS Permasmile is one of the best beers I've had all year.

For what its worth my answer would be Vermont as well. I had the best time ever up there, at least beer drinking wise.

It is an amazing time to be a beer drinker. Sure, if you chase walez 24/7 maybe not much is different but for someone that just enjoys good beer I can't believe the amount of high caliber readily available jaw dropping beer available.

Glad you liked the Permasmile that much, I'll keep you in mind as they are supposed to be releasing a 2.0 in the, hopefully, not too distant future.

Agreed. Having been to both VT and Munster, VT wins by a lot. VT has multiple world class breweries while Munster has one. Not even close.

I'm finally popping my Hill Farmstead cherry. Beachwood is having a pre-Festival HF/Loon/3F night. It is my day off of work and I fully intend to drink everything, maybe going back for seconds on some :stuck_out_tongue: Any HF favorites from this list?

VT would definitely be awesome, but if it's all about the brewery, I'd have to pick Austin, Decorah, or Brussels. From the breweries that I've had, Jester King, Toppling Goliath, and Cantillon are my favorites. Luckily, I get to visit Austin every so often, but living there would be so much better. That Toppling Goliath though. Sue, King Sue, Sosus, Zeelander...just wow. I can't even imagine how I'll feel about Assassin and KBBS. I'm pretty jealous of my buddy up there, but then again, it is Iowa...

Abner, Double Citra, Arthur, Brother Soigne are my favorites from that list. Emphasis on the Abner, don't miss it.

My bad. I'll buy you and @jawas a beer when we get together. In part I wasn't sure you guys would want to drive all the way out to Harrisburg. Still, I feel like an ass. :astonished:

Edward also gets pretty high marks, though I haven't had it myself. Cantillon Fou Foune and St Gilloise are phenomenal, and though I haven't had most of them, the Drie Fonteinens are all supposed to be awesome too. Enjoy man!

Was in Boston a couple months ago for a wedding (unfortunately the wedding was actually in the Salem area, so my time in Boston itself was very limited) and managed to stop by Trillium on the way to the airport. Picked up a couple bottles of Lineage Wheat and Lineage Red but they didn't have Congress Street bottled that day unfortunately. Did at least get to try a taste of it though.

If I were to move strictly for beer-related reasons it'd probably have to be to Portland, OR. Was out there over the summer for a week and there is some absolutely ridiculous beer coming out of Portland. And when you add in beer from the surrounding areas (Bend, Eugene, and Hood River in particular), plus Seattle, plus decent distribution... Well, it was a pretty ridiculous week. Having some pretty awesome BAs didn't hurt at all. Was invited to multiple bottles shares with the group knowing good and well that I had no beer to share since I hadn't really brought anything with me.

Congress St. and Focal Banger are the best IPAs I've had. Period.

I would love a pizza boy meetup but my schedule is pretty packed so I'm not 100% certain I could commit to it (both time-wise and financially), but definitely let me know if it happens between the area people and if I can I'd absolutely show up!

I have only had Abner off of that list and I would highly recommend it. It is one of the best beers I have ever had.

I don't know if I can get out to Harrisburg again, but if you wanted to do something in the Philly area (Forest & Main or Capone's preferably, but Tired Hands could work too) that'd be great.

Actually pretty jealous people from a several state area can get together like that - I can drive for five+ hours and still be in TX.
