Yeah, from an accounting perspective that cash isn't revenue until it is spent by the customer.

 

I think it's more the latter as they are about to open another bigger place down the street and probably need some upfront money.
Big Spoon has been trying to talk me into splitting a membership with him--still undecided.

 

I'm thinking that, similar to a lot of places that have gift cards, they are anticipating the initial influx of cash with the expectation that the most people won't use the full amount of the gift card immediately.

Although, it's probably anybody's guess
