    Hahaha.. I can see that.

    For the Record:
The church in my photo is St. Bartholomew's Church, a three-nave Romanesque basilica which dates back to before the year 1270 and according to legend, Hildegard, a wife of Charlemagne the Great, donated the land the church now sits on around the year 755-ish). My biers are sitting on the window sill of my 2d story spare bedroom of our house - which was built in 1463.

Oh, i know what you are saying - i just thought I'd drop a bit of background on my background. :grinning:

I often have to wait (or crop out) some cars that occasionally park beside the birch.

..and they are idyllic - I live in Germany!

Hmmm... Can we see this "church" from a different angle, N8?

I picked up a sixer of this because I enjoyed Blue Mountain's 13.5 O'Fest. Best Before date is 12.2014 so this one is pretty late into its existence, but that being said I did not enjoy it at all. It was to the point that I started wondering if something was wrong with my glass. In any event, I'll finish the six pack and report back if there are any changes, but for now 2.25/5.00

Been cutting back on my beer intake as of late -- mainly because I was just tired of beer; nothing was sending me.

As a result, I think I have my palate back: malts taste better, hop characters are cleaner -- even Spaten Okto has more melanoidin character than I thought it did in early Autumn.

Since I still like light, subtle, but well-brewed beer, I opted for Trumer Pils to swing into the long weekend (thank goodness for a local retailer that keeps it stocked). The palate recalibration shines with this one. What a perfect German-style Pils; malty and spicy-hoppy with the balance tipping to the hoppiness just right. Clean, not cloying, and outstandingly fresh. Beats the heck out of Bittburger or Warsteiner any day.

Prosit! To all, happy Thanksgiving -- even to our friends in non-celebrating areas.

This might not be the ideal thread for this beer but I figured it has enough of an American pedigree that it might be included here. This is the Kellerbier made by Nya Carnegiebryggeriet, which was started by Carlsberg Sweden and Brooklyn brewery. The beer is based on Brooklyn's Gold Standard but with certain modifications, Gold Standard had an OG of 14.6% and an abv of 6.2%, this beer has an OG of 14 and 5.9% abv. The ingredients (aside from the yeast, the Kellerbier uses a Weihenstephaner yeast whereas Gold Standard used a yeast from New Glarus as per the websites) are however the same: floor malted Bohemian Hanka malt and Perle, Mittelfrüh and Saaz hops. The hops are evident in the nose of the beer, there's also what I would describe as some yeastiness, but the hops really jump out in the taste. This is a hoppy lager beer, with what I would describe as a freshly herbal flavor as opposed to the floral flavor that I got from the Augsburger and Riedenburger, with a good strong bitterness (still kept in balance by the malt, the body is decidedly fuller than a regular pilsner). Hops predominate here but there's a pleasant bready aftertaste to the beer. It's a really tasty and high quality beer. Kudos to Brooklyn brewery and Carlsberg I say, this is a fine contribution to the Swedish beer market.

Brooklyn's Gold Standard Kellerbier is by far my favorite of all the U.S.-brewed Kellerbiere I have had. Unfortunately it cost me the equivalent of nearly $25 a six pack. Ouch!

    Patrik,

I had the opportunity to drink Brooklyn Gold Standard and very much enjoyed that beer. The hops do indeed really ‘pop’ in this beer.

To the best of my knowledge Brooklyn Gold Standard is draft only and released on a rotating basis.

Obviously the Nya Carnegiebryggeriet Kellerbier is bottled; is this a year round product?

I took note of: “…the Kellerbier uses a Weihenstephaner yeast…” I am guessing that the Weihenstephan 34/70 lager strain was used; that is a popular yeast strain for commercial lager brewing.

    Cheers!

    Jack

It's year round and meant to be their flagship beer, it had only been available on draft until 21st of November of this year when it was made available at a few monopoly stores close to the brewery, as well as for order by the bottle in the rest of the country. Their bottling technology seems pretty small-scale so far going by this video, but I'm sure there are plans to ratchet up production if the demand is there.

Yes that would be my guess as well. The second largest brewery in Sweden, and arch nemesis of Carlsberg Sweden, uses that strain for their lager beers.

“It's year round and meant to be their flagship beer…” Lucky you! I wish that Brooklyn Gold Standard was a year round & bottled product.

I watched the video of the bottle filling. Their bottling time is about the same as me for homebrewing!:grimacing:

I sure hope that they install a production bottling line soon.

    Cheers!

Not sure how many in this thread have had the chance to try Left Hand's Polestar Pils (I think I remember seeing @Domingo mention/praise it), but would be interested to hear anyone's takes. Never having traveled to Germany, I don't have any sort of baseline for what a good German pils should taste like (my exposure to the stuff that's exported here is similarly limited), but hot dang if last night's pint wasn't awfully satisfying. I really appreciated the measured zip of hops offseting a lightly malty backbone, which never got overly grainy/heavy. It had a nice lager yeast note too, without getting too sulpheric, which I'd run into a bit with some of Jack's Abby's offerings (not to say I didn't enjoy those too, only that the note was stronger in them). Anyway, any reccs for other German-oriented pils to seek out?

Polestar is a pretty passable version IMO.

Since you are in California I would highly recommend Trumer Pils (brewed in Berkeley, CA). Trumer Pils is a high quality German style Pilsner.

    Cheers!
