Why is this glass called a snifter but also has attributes of a tulip? If I wasn't told that this glass was a snifter I would think it's a tulip.

What type of glass is this and why?

Sorry if this is a stupid question :/

I'm not sure about the Goose Island glass, but I think this is a tulip

    and this is a snifter

The salient difference is the flare at the top.

I know that those are the two, but this glass looks kinda like both, but more like the tulip without the curves

What didn't happen, I'm confused you have to be more specific?

Tulip - they just for some reason decided to call it a snifter

Agreed, tulip. I'm guessing they call it a snifter to be 'consistent' with their verbiage on the back of the bottles ('preferred glass: snifter'). Maybe tulip sounds too girly for BOURBON COUNTY.

I have a glass from a local brewery that is somewhere in between...I call it a fluted snifter, but I agree the Bourbon County glass is basically a tulip.

It doesn't seem quite as long on top as a usual tulip. I'd call it a snulip.

Mind if I toss in my two cents? Thank you. Being a bit of a glass hound I've come to a conclusion surrounding the ever growing concept of vessel incantations. If we were to look back, but a few short years we would have concluded that there were snifters (Brandy style) and fluted tulips. The general rule as I understood it was, if the glass's bottom was the same diameter as the top open portion, it was considered a tulip, like the flower. However, with the rash of latest breakthroughs in glass vessel technology (I kinda liked the way that sounded) we are now seeing glassware pushed to new levels. I personally thank craft brewing for this.

The glass in question is for all intents and purposes, a snifter. Note the balloon bottom and how its larger than the opened top. These new glasses are quite elegant nowadays with their etched wording. I personally liked the older thicker style of BCBS glass from 2 years ago. I thought the size and use of colored screening, made for a better presentation. Now, if only they could have applied the screening correctly on that second batch. BTW:  Cheers!

While we're on the topic and someone posted a picture of one above...why are Teku glasses all the rage?

Teku glasses are the newest thing, no other reason then that. Something different in design is all.
