I hear what you are saying but this is Beeradvocate. We all love beer. Just wish people would stop complaining about missing beers, that they want to have, but not willing to go to the lengths other people are actually doing to get them. They are playing within the rules, that the breweries set, but yet people are faulting them. Who cares how they spent their time when we didn't do the same. People could always trade with these "insane" people. Of course, you know that I'm not talking about you, @Jbrews. You're a good guy.

Dinner is nothing like Heady IMO. Nightshift Morph is a lot more like Heady than Dinner is. Dinner and Abner are virtually identical.

Now tonight, I poured myself a Julius before I had a Dinner.

Lunch and Dinner aren't alike. Dinner is like a kicked up MO. Lunch is about the same as Another One.

And I would wait in line again....in the snow and cold. Think my next effort is to go to Hill Farmstead again though.

Sooooo pissed I could not get to the Dinner release. Do I really have to wait another 3-4 months, MBC???
Here's an idea; drop some of your less popular offerings and step up production of Dinner.

Got there around 7:30 not expecting a shit show. I had no worries about being shut out until I hear d the 350 case allotment. I ended up splitting case #350 with my buddy. Disappointed I didn't get a case, yes. Happy to at least walk away with 6 bottles, you bet. Will I ever do this again, probably not.

On a side note this brew is absolutely outstanding. Could be my perfect hoppy beer.

Just made an IP trade with a local guy, two Dinners for a Black Tuesday. That, to me, makes up for falling on my ass and bruising my tailbone at my parents as we departed their house just before six. Not sure I'd repeat, but it was a fun outing. Nice time with family and the other beer crazies.

Dinner is not like a kicked up Mo. You don't taste the Citra and Mosaic in Dinner or that it doesn't use wheat? The hop profile is very different. You also aren't picking up the caramel malts and sweetness in Lunch or the lack of Cascade and Citra hops in it that makes Another One a drastically different beer? Also the only thing similar between dinner and abner is the use of simcoe.

This is what it comes down to for me. It is a great beer. I don't need to compare it to anything or care who slept where to get it. It is delicious and if you can get your hands on some, enjoy it.

After comparing them last night, I'd say Dinner surpassed Heady, by far. Perhaps the HT was a couple weeks older & Dinner was fresher, but the nose, appearance, and taste blew it away. Maine Beer Co outdid themselves and the 2 hour wait in the cold was worth every minute.

We also did the whole Portland scene (MBC, Allagash, BB, Foundation, Austin St), then hit up Banded Horn in Biddeford, Tributary in Kittery, Some Brewery in York, and wrapped up with Earth Eagle & the Portsmouth Brewery. 10 breweries, 1 day & I'd still say Dinner was the best.

This batch seemed more malty and less dank. The previous batches were right up my ally so this was a little disappointing. Maybe they're working on consistency before making it on the reg.

I may be getting this wrong, but it seems like you're implying that it's not ridiculous to camp out for iPhones or movie tickets. Hint: it is. This freakish competitiveness over products is ridiculous, especially when it comes at the expense of other people getting a chance to try it due to hoarding.

Yep, you got it wrong. Try reading my follow-up post too. Short version; their time, their choice, not violating any rules, thus not hoarding (they each got a case of Dinner, which was the limit). They were willing to go the extra lengths that we were not. That is the way it is. You snooze, you lose, on any line, for limited quantities. You and I don't have to like it but these people played within the rules that were set for this release. Blame the brewery, if you want. Otherwise, everybody is just venting. No change comes from that but people feel better doing it. Organized appeals to the breweries might be more effective but complaining is easier to do. Again, congrats to people who got their Dinner. No sour grapes on my end. Also, welcome to Beeradvocate. Cheers.

Eh, your follow up and this post seem to confirm that you don't think it's ridiculous. Playing by the rules doesn't mean that rules aren't ridiculous in the first place.

Mules make a 1 case limit ridiculously ineffective.

Either way, the brewery has probably learned more from their insanely fast sell outs than any kind of organized appeal could accomplish.

I think you should take "I" out of this response because it's clear you're all for it and it's more than likely you were the one setting up the tent at 11pm the previous night.

This analogy is flawed. In your example, even if you choose not to line up early you still have the option to buy the tickets and/or product at a later time of general sale. In the case of a beer release like Dinner there is no distribution, so you're faced with a forced choice if you want the product. If I choose not to line up for the midnight showing, I can be assured there will be future showings.

Personally, I would have no desire to attend this type of release (I just hate lines), and I won't criticize those who do, I just think your analogy isn't quite accurate.

Get real dude. I'm not driving up, all the way, from NYC for this release. You really need to get a grip. Here in NYC, we have people lining up for everything. You need to stop judging people who got the beers using the MBC line and rules, instead of distribution. You were in nearby NH so you could have been one of the early ones. Don't complain to me. Complain to MBC.

Not a complaint. Simply an observation, which I stand by. I have my Dinner and my grip is fierce.

Agreed, the analogy could have been better. Here in NYC, all showings sell out super fast for blockbuster movies. I actually wanted to use concert ticket analogy but the kiddies here wouldn't know a time when you lined up instead of buying online. I had hoped my general point would come across.

    So, for the record,

Lines suck, but that is the way it is.
Would not bring a tent to wait in line.
Have waited for other beer releases closer to NY.
Have given a bottle to people behind me in line when they got closed out.

There are plenty of things, in life, to complain about. I just chose not to worry about how other people, use their time, to get their beer.

You are a funny guy. You wait in line, get your Dinner, accuse me of being in a tent ahead of you, and don't understand that I'm actually saying that people shouldn't be concerned that people, like you, chose to camp out in long lines to get their Dinner case. Geez.
