For a straight up stout no frills? Stone IRS, Narwhal, Happy Ending, Duck Rabbit RIS and Milk Stout.

With additives-- Wake n Bake, Choklat, Creme Brulee, Breakfast Stout, Moo-Hoo.

I agree with Courage IRS, also Stone RIS aged at least 8 months, and Modern Times Monster's Park is fantastic.

Yep. As I've said, not only is it my all-time favorite Non-BA Imperial Stout, it is right up there as my all-time favorite Imperial Stout PERIOD along with BCBS. It's like liquid custard.

No one has mentioned dogfish head WWS. I'm pretty sure this is one of the best I've ever had.

You have to swallow three times just to get it down! LOL! It's the thickest stout I've ever had! Well beyond the thickness that is Ten Fidy!

Fear not, it's been mentioned on the first page and on this one.

I'm not generally a fan of Stone beers, but their Imperial Russian Stout gets it absolutely right year after year. My very favorite non-barrel-aged stout, along with the majestic Speedway Stout from AleSmith. I also like La Cumbre's Malpais Stout and Firestone's Velvet Merlin.

So it can be barrel aged, but not 100% barrel aged? That seems like a silly distinction.

Just curious, are you from Pa? Never thought I would see that beer be mentioned in this forum. I agree with you, it's an excellent stout.

They have already been mentioned, but I will echo Huna and Peche Mortel.

2010 Bell's Expedition Stout was not only the best stout I've ever had, but one of the best beers I've ever had. (Aged 3 years, 2013) Surprised to not see more love for Expedition, though.

I was thinking the same thing. By this definition, Bourbon County Coffee has coffee added so that part of the liquid wasn't in the barrel, so I guess that's my pick. I honestly don't feel this is anymore silly than listing a beer blend with multiple barrel aged beers.

Am I the only one who thinks that while barrel aging is a potentially great way to add something tasty to a beer, it also isn't a way to set a beer into a different tier of quality? Maybe I'm just being beside the point here, but I just don't feel like I have to specify my favorite non-barrel aged stout (except in this thread har har) when talking about the best stouts in general. I think barrel aging is just something you can do to a beer and that beers that don't get that treatment could possibly be far better. Being non-barrel aged is not some kinda limiting factor.
