Any naysayers out there pick up Avery Tweak, drink the whole thing yourself, and tell me you didn't hop around in circles afterwards.

I drink 2 espressos a day on average so I definitely notice a withdrawal when I don't have it.

But as never get this reaction from coffee stouts

Never noticed any caffeine from coffee stouts and I don't drink coffee and rarely soda, always figured any caffeine in FBS or anything else would be overwhelmed by the alcohol

Yes, but mine was more of a "please bring me more Tweak" dance than a caffeine fueled rendition of what my dogs do when we get the treat box out....

Just had a FBS last night (for science of the thread) and definitely didn't get any caffeine buzz. Was sipping it probably between 8:45-9:30p last night, and am not a regular coffee drinker

Yea, except I don't have a problem falling asleep drinking non-coffee beers late at night.

When I switched from French press to espresso I found the effects of caffeine more tolerable. One shot of espresso has about 50-100mg of caffeine per serving. One cup of coffee has up to 250mg. 300mg and over can cause mild overdose symptoms. I've cut out caffeine due to health reasons but I find the occasional coffee stout is more in line with a shot of espresso than a cup of coffee. Usually I get no effect.

Sorry, should have said no sources on some of the wild claims of getting tweaked on coffee beers, caffeine immunity (not physiologically possible), or alcohol keeping you awake at night *laughable.

I have heard alcohol reduces quality of sleep but not that it keeps you awake.

Maybe once you've had more than 2 beers you'll know what I mean. Oh! Snap!

Not really worthy of an answer but I will tell you that I've been drinking beer for 38 years and will never even begin to say I know everything about it. And I'm also not a scientist but I have read ( and it has been proven) that if you drink in moderation the alcohol relaxes you and the when it wears off your body "wakes up" common sense really. Of course if you consume multiple high ABV beers no matter what time of day you will pass out. So your response sounds like something I would hear from my 21 yr old son. But I'm not on the site to argue or seem better then anyone else. I'm here to share stories and music and opinions about beer and willing to listen to anyone and learn.
    Cheers!

I was just messing with you man. But glad you got your little dig in there. I don't need a lesson in moderation or ABV. All I was saying was that certain caffeine beers can prevent me from sleeping as compared to those without caffeine, consumed in the same way, at the same time of day. That's sort of what the thread is about. It's going to be different for each individual.

I think I've heard that there is about 30-40 mg of caffeine in FBS, which would make the caffeine content very similar to a can of coke, but certainly not more than a cup of coffee.

I think that number is bullshit (not flaming you). I've heard that before and don't see how that's possible. The other flavors in FBS aren't that strong to hide that much coffee that would need to be used to throw out that much caffeine. There simply isn't much of a coffee profile in FBS compared to actual coffee stouts, and I know that some of the most coffee forward brews that I've been able to find out solid info about are using 3-6oz of cold pressed coffee per GALLON. That is the strongest I've come across, anyways. You can do the math and see how little actual 'coffee' you are getting in your 12oz pour. Many, like a fellow homebrewer above said, are using 3-5oz per FIVE GALLONS and that gives you a nice coffee flavor.

Like others said, if you think you are getting a caffeine buzz off of a coffee stout, its most likely a placebo affect. If you are hypersensitive to pick up that little caffeine then a can of soda would probably kill you, hah.
