This is the best. Paul, I owe you a beer when I see you.

I see no purpose for further discussion.

Whatever happened to Free Speech? This has gone way too far. There are a plethorea of beers, products and even services as well as an array of industries especially sports (i.e., Blackhawks, Redskins, Indians, etc.) that may come off offensive. Ya just can't appease everyone in this world by name changes. It kills the brand. I truly hope for Half Acre (Heyoka) and NEBCO (Ghandi Bot) that even the beer wouldn't change, that this doesn't take a big hit on them. Not everyone is as smart like us here on BA nor aware of the changes like that non-beer geek who decides to stop at his/her favorite brewery seeing that their 'favorite beer' is gone unsuspect of the name change, will ultimately go home disappointed. I can go on and on here, but you get the gist. Such a shame and a royal pain in the ass once a stellar has to change. But, again I think I like Abacus beers better than Sucaba beers. Or is it psychological bc of the name change? Sheer madness! Why don't I change my first name because I'm not 100% Irish and the Irish folk find it offensive that I carry an Irish name.

In all due respect, quit trying to "take the high road" and stand proud behind the name you feel best reflects your product or service. This is America.

I'd like to know why a state rep doesn't even know the name of one of the most popular beers made in the state.

Because in the grand scheme of things the majority of the public does not give a rats ass about craft beer. Which makes this whole story even more lame. People do realize that the folks posting on here and deep into craft beer are a VERY minimal and small fraction of any state or town. Essentially irrelevant and only made news because its more legal controversy babble. I don't know why people can't see this. Take the Indian VS American thing out of this story and people give even less of a shit. The focus for the media is not the BEER part of it but purely the name and controversy.

Most state reps spend plenty of time learning random irrelevant crap about products made in state regardless of whether they or the majority of the public gives a rats ass about it.

I'm not sure there is anything for them to fight. Some nitwit attorney in India filed a lawsuit in an Indian court. NEBCO does not do business there and they have no jurisdiction over NEBCO and its owners. I would say if they had to make changes due to boycotts or sales declines, that could cost them. But they sell as much as they can make and i know that will continue to be the case.

I'm going to guess that 99% of these buzzfeed poll takers are not currently NEBCO customers, so it really doesn't matter what they think...

TV Channel 8 in New Haven (local CT ABC affiliate) just did their "Voice of the People" call-in segment on this. I usually refer to this segment as "voice of the idiot" because its usually people vastly under informed on the topic they are wound up enough about to call and voice their opinion on.
I was pleasantly surprised with the Ghandi Bot topic. Every caller supported NEB. Some because of freedom and some because its a great beer and should never be considered to be removed from the shelves (any BA people participate?).

I feel like we should be more sensitive to the literally tens of people that are totally outraged over a beer can label.

Went in to the local liquor store today and asked for some gandhi bot. Shockingly, they had none!

Looks like the ban has already begun.

Seriously, that's awesome. Is it from the brewery, or a bottle shop giveaway or something?

I went to my local shop tonight and the owner, who Im pretty sure is Indian, offered me his last 4pk. I asked him if he'd heard about the shitstorm (he hadnt). So now, happily and unusually in possession, my only outrage is that it was canned on 12/29. Soooo old

In all seriousness, this will all disappear soon (please?). The 24hr news cycle may have already moved on. The state rep who was appalled that "the apostle" was blasphemed just needs to grow a sac and not be so offended. This is such ridiculousness

Wow! I've have drinking as much ghandi-bot as I could possible get my hands on, and never even put the two names together! Quit whining and lighten up, seriously if any one has enough time on there hands to get offended by a small offering beer name, and follow up with litigation,, spend your time seriously helping people and make a real difference in the world.

being local like most of you im not shocked at all people get butthurt over any and everything now it seems. I love the name think its perfect and funny like most craft beers have when it comes to names. I dont care if they change it or not just hope they maybe make the distribution a little more wide spread *fingers crossed* but a absolute treat when i find it on tap or try to in cans!!

at the end of the day it's just beer. It's a really fucking good one, still it's beer. I feel like there is a hell of a lot more things out there that people could spend their energy on that would actually benefit the world.

Nebco is great in my book and they're great people. Leave them alone to continue on making great beer out of the great state of CT.

Looks like Gandhi-Bot may soon be little more than a fond memory. From NEBCO's FB:

For nearly five years we’ve been brewing Gandhi-Bot. In those five years we’ve proudly served it to people of all backgrounds. Until this week we’ve never received a single negative comment regarding the label but after a recent article it has come to our attention that the artwork has clearly offended some people. We are a very small company that is passionate about brewing beer and have never had any intention to offend anyone but rather share what we do with anyone interested. Our intentions come from a positive place. In this case we simply wanted to include the things and people in the world that have inspired us and find a way to incorporate them into the work we do. If the ideas and the growth of beliefs could only be inspired by individuals that we agreed 100% with, then the truly great ideas would never have been passed down throughout history. We have a great appreciation for the non-violent benevolent ideas that Gandhi taught. The fact that we consume or make alcohol in no way negates the value we find in what he taught. After threats and some truly hurtful assumptions about the incredibly caring people that work for New England Brewing Company we are working on finding the best way to amend this situation in a manner that both is respectful to those who are offended as well as a way that is manageable for our small company. Thank-you for understanding.
