If you're driving down, as you leave NJ and enter PA on your way to Philly, Vault Brewing in Yardley is a great place to check out. It's about 30 min outside of the city.

Sancho Pistolas on Girard Ave in Fishtown area of the city. Same owners as Jose Pistolas in Center City.

Bottle Bar East is around the corner from Pistolas on Frankford Ave and would be an easy walk.

Also within walking distance in the area, but not new places, are Johnny Brenda's, Frankford Hall and Barcade.

Also Fette Sau is right there if you're in the mood for some BBQ

Kraftwerk and Interstate Draft House are only a block further.

Went to National Mechanics on New Year's Day and was suitably impressed with beer, food, service and funky decor, near Irish Pol, Khyber Pass and several other old city joints

Not Center City but near 'burbs, Conshohocken Brewing. I think some pretty solid beers. Don't go for the food or ambience but nice place to hang out. Although it is one of the few places I've been in that has zeps on the menu. Right next to the bike trail, it is perfectly acceptable to sit at the bar wearing your helmet and bike clothes if so inclined.

They'll be easy to add to the list on another day when we hit Forest & Main and Tired Hands.

I don't know what you consider "a block", but it's almost a 10min walk from Johnny Brenda's to Kraftwork

strangeloves is owned by the same people as memphis taproom and local 44. both have great food and tap/bottle lists.

My favorite current bar in Philly is Fountain Porter, followed by Strangelove's.

Almost always a Carton or two on tap, or interesting Euro beers, a 5 dollar burger that it's frighteningly good, vinyl only soundtrack, and just a good neighborhood vibe. No stupid huge flatscreens, no clueless staff, the people who work there know the beers and like them. Super comfy and always something great to drink. Go there.

The burger is without a doubt the best $5 cheeseburger i have ever had, it's my go to before the long drive home after most Philly events.

I'm also in the Fountain Porter camp. Definitely worthy of your time.

Might be in the minority here, but I found 2nd Story to be mediocre and not too different from Triumph with respect to quality of beers.

Thanks to everyone for the FP recommendations, as I've yet to check that place out! Looks like they have an incredible draft list and you can't beat a $5 burger!

I'll take that into consideration even though it is our duty to at least to walk in ... when in doubt we'll end the night at Khyber Pass and all will be good. ;-)

Jason , I will echo the sentiment and say stop by 2nd Story Brewing. It is a stones throw from Khyber Pass and Han Dynasty if you want a few good spots to hit.

Good to know as the previous brewery there never lived up to their potential IMO.

Bainbridge street barrel house usually has a great tap list and they are having a sour event coming up, although its a small list they have a couple good brews on the list. It is a couple blocks south of the khyber/2nd story area.

I see they open at 11am ... might hit them up on Monday before Todd gets into town. Thanks for this suggestion.
