Also, for what it's worth, we had a really nice experience there yesterday. $4 gin and tonic, and $4 salty dog during happy hour. I had not previously had Du Nord's spirits, and both the gin and vodka were excellent (and I am saying that as a vodka hater).

    A couple of quick updates.

Grillen Brewing -- this is from the founder and principal:
Winton Roadhouse (Winton, MN plan -- see link below):
    Related article from last spring.

    Also, two recommendations:
    1. Differentiated lists (brewpubs, taprooms, and possible/BIP) compiled by @islay. I had initially done this, but system crashes (and I never back anything up) have eaten my homework.

    2. Map with comprehensive list compiled by @Seamus_McGuire.

More updates this weekend -- I'm brewing today and then partying like a rockstar tonight. :stuck_out_tongue:

I've done Google Map overlays before. If I had a list with addresses I could certainly make one for here.

Just an update to an already opened brewery. Schram is closed for the winter but will be at Winterfest serving their beer. I suggest trying the Mocha Monkey Ale and the sour saison.

While they are trying to change their licensing to be open 12 months of the year, their operation has been unpopular with the neighbors so they are not overly optimistic about opening again as soon as March. A May reopening is most likely. By that time they will have their new brewhouse operating and will start experimenting with fermenting in concrete vessels (beer as well as wine). Also expanding the barrel and sour programs this year.

Unpopular with the neighbors? How so?

Not sure if you have been out there or not. But Schram is located out in the country on a gravel road. You can imagine the country feel is now ruined by a bunch of cars driving by making noise and kicking up dust (not really a problem during winter). The road is also taking a beating. I would be annoyed to if I lived on that road.

Met a guy last night who is opening a place in Rochester. Said he does sours and the place will also serve coffee and woodfired pizzas, hoping to open by June in the old Good Food store off Civic Center Dr.

The property is fabulous. I imagine sitting outside there in the summer with a couple pints playing bocce ball would be pretty awesome. But you're right, I'd be pissed if I was a neighbor. I wonder if any country brewery/taprooms have similar issues with neighbors.

Not a new brewery, but good news for beer lovers in Northern MN. A new craft-beer-friendly bar & restaurant will be opening Summer 2015 on highway 371 between Walker and Hackensack.
Arthur's Ten Mile Lake, which is being constructed at the site of the former Arthur's Restaurant, will feature 24 tap lines, and will include a small off-sale space that will be able to fill and sell growlers from their taps. The restaurant will have a full kitchen, including a wood fired pizza oven. The indoor dining area will seat approximately 150, with large floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Ten Mile Lake, and outdoor seating for about 200 on the 2,300 sq ft deck overlooking the lake.
The property includes lakeshore, which will have docks and boat slips. The Paul Bunyan bike and snowmobile trail runs through the property, along the lake shore.
The new restaurant will be owned and operated by a partnership including the Ten Mile Lake Association, and Graves Hospitality of Minneapolis.

I didn't think MN law allowed anyone other than a brewery to fill growlers for off-sale.

Hmmm, it appears you are correct. Maybe there is a potential workaround of the law, but I doubt it.

Maybe they have been assured it is changing this session. I have no idea. Or they just don't know the laws.

I saw you chimed in and it got pointed out quickly that the growlers were for on site consumption only. I'm not on here 24 hours a day you know

With all this competition these days you would think there would be an emphasis by these new breweries in replying to questions from their potential customers but some of these places just don't get it. I'm not going to name names but I have gotten zero response from several e-mail inquiries to a few places. I'm not asking in depth questions either. Just about what growler prices are, if certain beers are sold in growlers, hours on etc. Things not listed on their website or facebook site that should be there anyhow. Now, I have had incredible responses from a few places as well and you know how it works...those are the places I am more apt to visit. Just amazed how some places just don't get the customer service end of things.
