I had OSU scoring 42 points, that's gotta be good for something :stuck_out_tongue: Oregon scoring 52 was not so good...

I had, but I am sure someone is closer:
    OSU 31
    Oregon 24

I liked it, just didn't love it... and am very glad I tried it. I still gave it a 4 on untappd :-). And it definitely got better as it warmed up. And btw I had wax issues with one of the WnB's I got in the 12 days of xmas BIF.

WnB wax is absurd. It's a 10 minute endeavor. I have one in the cellar that I'm dreading opening.

Is there a way that it is "supposed to" be done? I usually try and expose about 1/4 to 1/3 of the edge of the bottle cap (which takes some effort) and than try and just open from that side -- so far I'm happy I haven't gotten any wax particles in any bottles.

That is basically what I do, if anyone has a better way, I'm all ears.

Held upside down in ice water for 10 minutes apparently makes it much easier to get off

edit: In the interest of full disclosure, I've never tried this.

That's approximately what I did for the Cinnamon Roll'd WnB I opened, though probably more like 1/5 or so. Except I basically ended up pulling a strip of metal up across the cap and didn't get the rest. Had to peel off more wax to get the rest of the cap. Was at least a 10 minute endeavor and almost a lost finger or two.

So basically what you guys are saying is the first craft beer nerd to create the most effective bottle opener to account for wax as well is going to make a lot of money. Working on a prototype now...

@Lehighace06 's ice water idea is intriguing, I was actually thinking that maybe warming it up to soften it might work too. The problem on the WnB (more than the Event Horizon) was just how damn thick the wax was.

@Lehighace06 method probably will work. Freezing wax will make it easy/easier to remove, but you're still standing their for 10 minutes and with your bottle upside down. We can still be more efficient than that!

Much as I'd like to take credit, it wasn't my idea. And I agree, an opener with a heating element in it to melt the wax could be an intriguing solution.

It is, but the function it serves in keeping oxygen out of the bottle is a wonderful one. I'm seriously considering waxing some bottles I plan to age that didn't come with it. I wouldn't do it WnB style of course, but I think it'd be worth doing.
