bombers are a great sharing size - two people get to share a nice beer.

Bombers are cheap to buy - the wholesale price of the glass, to the brewery, for a bomber is around a third (ish) the price of a 750. Switching to "other size" would also involve retooling bottling lines. Who will be paying for all these costs?
Personally, I think the wrong beer is being put into bombers. IMHO, high ABV beers should not be in bombers, they should be in 12s.

I think standard bombers split rather nicely for a brew-rating duo such as ourselves. I suppose I wouldn't argue with a few more ounces, but I also wouldn't say either of us are dissatisfied.

At least until bomber sales slow down.

Why the heck is it a third (ish) of the coast to make glass that's 3 ounces less? I guess most 750s are a little fancier but I didn't think it was that big of a difference.

I still don't get why the format is 22 ounces; why not 24? I prefer a 12 ounce glass in general because I'm ADD as hell with my beer so unless I get to share (which is rare) I'm way less likely to open a bomber of something. Probably why I have such a stockpile of them now.

I usually only drink a single beer in a sitting; on the rare occasion I'll go for two if it is something special, so 22oz bottles are usually a better serving option for me. This is especially true if whatever beer I want is a booze-bomb - I can have my 12oz pour and then share the remaining 10 oz with others who may be interested, or if no one else wants to partake, either try my best to finish the remaining 10oz or cork it and save it for the next day to try to finish. Some will say "duh just go buy a 6pk and only drink one beer if that's all you want, idiot." Yeah, well that's all fine and dandy until those other 5 beers sit in my fridge for better than the next month before they get finished. May not be as big of a freshness issue since I don't buy IPAs, but I just don't want the remnants of 6pks sitting in my fridge taking up shelf space for that long. I don't have that problem if I buy a single bomber - it will get finished within a day or two once it is opened.

I don't buy bombers. If the beer was in a 40 oz container I still wouldn't buy bombers. But I would probably shake my head twice as much while passing them by.

The first 22 ounce bottles AFAIK in post-Repeal US were the ones used by west coast breweries in the 1930's and 1940's, where one of the two standard size bottles were 11 ounces, so a 22 was twice the size of a standard bottle.
When the craft industry first started using the 22 ounce bottle (Anderson Valley claims they were the first in 1989) there were already several imports (Australian and Japanese) that came in 650 ml., so that equivalent size bottles were already common. There were also some 21 oz. bottles around at the time in that time period (Beck's and Mickey's Malt Liquor).

The 22 oz. bottle also had the advantage of carrying only a 5ยข deposit in some mandatory deposit states - going with 24 oz. bottles meant a dime deposit. Sierra Nevada is one of the few brewers which went with the 24 oz. bottle.

I find that I like to try many different beer at a sitting so I prefer 12oz or 16oz servings.
Plus after you buy a 4pk or a 6pk you will have more for later or to trade or give to a friend.
Also is it just me or do you seem to get more beer for your buck with a 4pk or a 6pk compared to a bomber?

I wouldn't want much more than 22oz. Any more and it would be too much to finish myself.

I'd prefer them to become 750ml, myself. It's only 25.3 ounces but that extra little bit helps top off the glasses better when people are sharing. Plus, the 750ml size is pretty popular with wine, so maybe glass costs would drop slightly?

I almost never buy sixers - I either buy bottles to age in the cellar or drink draft, for the most part. I will occasionally buy a six pack, but it's too much of the same thing for me.

I generally agree but it totally seems that 500ml bottle beers cost way too much per ounce. Basically I always feel like I'm paying for a bomber and getting 500ml.

Same thing goes for the 4 pk of 16oz cans. Same price as a 6 pack but less ounces... not cool
