learn to open your waxed bruery beers with a kitchen knife or sword? I think it can work with a bottle cap

So, as much as I didn't like Freckle. I will admit that I am getting over a cold so that might have messed with my palate. Will probably buy one bottle so I can give it a try post-sickness

I exchanged mine after it leaked for a second time in my growler bag. My guess is the O ring in the cap isn't thick enough to complete a air tight seal.

Maybe, if the place is half empty! At the one in January, no one was checking cards(maybe because everyone hadn't received theirs)! It did seem as there were quite a bit of people that weren't society members, that were having their friends buy beer for them.

My wife and I cracked open a Mango Hottenroth tonight to celebrate Valentine's Day. I now completely understand why they held off of releasing it for so long. What an absolute mess of a beer. I took a waft of it and got nothing but canned corn. I hadn't told my wife what the beer was and after she tasted it she started laughing. She asked it this was a "corn sour". She thought I'd opened it as a joke. The taste was equally off-putting. Just more and more cooked corn. Neither one of us got any mango from it.

For those of you with better knowledge of lacto than I do, does Dimethyl Sulfide ever go away as a beer ages?

Lacto will not process DMS. Brett might/should eventually process it (and according to Mike Tonsmeire's American Sour Beers, Hottenroth contains Brett Brux) but that will likely not be a quick process, especially if the DMS is horribly strong.

I haven't opened a bottle yet so I'm only speaking to the theoretical scenario. When I had it on tap it was a sulfur bomb with very little fruit character, not sure if a DMS bomb sounds better or worse.

Even before all the talk about leaks, @psbhockey12 and I just left ours for @AndrewSmith and told him to just use it this year for himself. I just thought it was silly to send the half growler back and forth, as much as I would have liked to try some of the beers, I just thought it'd be nicer to let Andrew use it to get good fills for himself instead of worrying about shipping it and it spilling, etc. Looks like that was a good decision with these horror stories.

does anyone know if the spirit barrel tour + tasting event in mid-march will be all sours, no sours, or a mix? they do call it the clean barrel facility, but i'm not sure if that means no sours.

The fact that they specify clean barrel would indicate to me no sours.
