I think it's great info, no doubt, and the BA community gains a great deal from having that knowledge. That said, I completely agree with ravot with regard to having to hunt down these rare releases. I tweeted back to Vav this afternoon after he tweeted that FMB was in saying that the release was going to be gone from Castle Vav by 12:15, +/- 30 minutes. I was about right - from what I can determine from the boards here, it was gone around 12 PM.

I was 'lucky' to enjoy some Frangelic recently at Founders and it is delicious. It would be nice to get a couple bottles from my local shops if they hold some for me, but overall, Vav was right when he said in another thread that these releases are gone largely because of the trading community (of which I consider myself a relatively active member, don't get me wrong). While trading is certainly not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, it turns these releases into an active quest of finding out exactly when and where something will be available and then grabbing a bottle before the allotment is gone in less than 30 minutes. I think anyone with an opinion on this whole craft beer 'craze' (or bubble, if you will) would agree that having to 'race' to a store once they get in a 'rare' beer kind of sucks.

Cheers to those who went out of their way to grab some today in this Chicago heat. Here's hoping you actually enjoy the fruit of your labor and drink the good stuff!

Well if it helps, I should have 1 bottle reserved at Capones that I will no longer need. I can help someone who misses out get a bottle, just BM me.

I do feel guilty about just getting a Frangelic at Castle Vav and leaving. However, with unemployment, I find myself just getting Zombie Dust by the case at FFF and New Glarus Dancing Man / Two Women by the case from Woodman's. It is much easier for me to pay $28-35 for a case of beer... and doing some much needed personal cellar cleaning.

Don't feel bad. I am sure many BAers are in the same situation. I have been on and off work for a few months and it has really cut down on my beer spending and trading. I was buying a case or more worth of beer on a beer run, now I am down to just searching out specifically what I want.

The International Beverage on Cascade got their shipment in the early afternoon. I sometimes forget there is a second International Beverage. I agree with you, Rishi is a great guy to deal with, he never seems to be in a bad mood and is always willing to help.

The flip side to that is the store is bringing in new customers. If the store can get 25% of those first time customers to become repeat customers, it was a good day. Customer counts and average transaction amounts going up are worth dealing with a few shit heads.

I hope you're not going to change your posts because of a post from somebody that has "stopped chasing and buying "rare" beers" . I find such posts helpful even though I don't chase, I just ask. I have enough good beer to last until the next release or find "it" on draft. Cheers!

Not a stout. American Brown Ale brewed with Hazelnut Coffee.

Just tried at Whole Foods cause was picking up some grilling fixins but landed some Devil Dancer. But my point is they probably will not sell it because it contains artificial something or another said the beer guy. That's just silly.

Funny you should mention that. I noticed that on the side of the bottle it states that it is a "Brown ale brewed with artificially flavored hazelnut coffee."

I have a hard time believing that just because someone posts if a store has a beer or not causes people to "flood" there. We are way past that point. Beers like this sell out the same day, sometimes within hours, in my hometown and I've meet 1 other person who is a BA and he doesn't even live here anymore.

A pal who works at whole foods bought his bottle from me because, in his words, they wont carry it due to the artificial hazelnut. hmm.

I just meant dark beers and the strong stuff in general

After I picked up naked evil and fruet at your store, I walked over to whole foods and they told me they couldn't carry it because of the artificial flavoring. Then the guy says, 'actually, we have a bottle if you want to taste it.' he then poured me a solid 6oz (or so) pour. Worked out pretty nicely...

I think this is exactly what can happen - the cherry-picking. I'm not for or against broadcasting these things, but giving a heads-up about a store having a certain sought-after bottle has the same effect as giving a heads-up (even if it's official, i.e. listed under Events here or on other sites) about a special tapping at a bar...that effect is that people who don't normally go there, go there. And I don't buy the argument about creating repeat business - my guess is that most of these customers aren't seen until the next hot-shit release. I'm of the same opinion as stephenieman...the necessity of having to chase things down constantly has worn me down - I'm all about scorig things on draft if/when possible.

I'm not sure who you talked to, but Kenosha Woodmans had one bottle behind the counter that I was able to snag earlier today.
