It would cost me about $55 to send 24 12oz bottles from WV to CA. If you ever get into beer trading, you'll realize that they aren't profiting off of those shipping costs.

I would love to get that Westmalle Tripel for the before shipping price though!

I'm in Belgium and occasionally ship beer to the US. Not sure how much packaging weighs, but it's about 600g for a bottle of beer, so 14.4Kg just for the bottles. Add say 4 - 5Kg for packaging and you arrive at 20Kg. This is about the max weight my courier will send and they charge 96EUR for that.

Depressing, wish there was another option.

I usually send smaller boxes of 6 bottles.

I prefer craftbeerkings.com they have a nice selection and the website gets updated daily.

Fluid ounces (what you measure beer with) is a measure of volume, not weight. There is more than one type of ounce so to calculate weight based on fluid ounces is a little more involved. Not to mention you'd also have to take the weight of the actual bottle into consideration. 25 fl oz of beer weighs about 28.5 ounces (U.S.). Then add the weight of the bottles which is about 7 ounces for an empty 12 oz glass bottle. Of course if you ship 750 ml then you have to adjust accordingly. Maths.

    Yes I'm fun at parties.

    1.14oz actual weight per 1floz.

Each beer is 33cl which comes out to exactly 11floz.

1.14oz * 11 = 12.54 oz of fluid per beer actual weight. Add 7oz for the glass bringing the total actual weight of each bottle to 17.54oz per beer.

    17.54oz x 24 beers is 420.96 oz or 26.31lbs.

The website claims 69.78lbs leaving a reality gap of 43.47lbs

That sure is a lot of packaging...

Wow, so yea, that doesn't add up so I went to the website and added 24 westmalle tripel to the cart and sure enough, 33cl. But my shipping says it is only 18kg (39.6lbs). Which [{(1.14 * 11)+7}*24]/16 = 29.31 pounds. To ship 24 bottles, I think it might take 10 pounds of packaging especially including the weight of the box (which would be huge).

Did you maybe add 48 on accident?

I do agree with you though that it is very costly to order overseas. I've done it and spended way more than I wanted, but Uncle Sam helped me out a little.

Anyway, enough of the maths! Lets drink some beers

Then they need to remove this:
We ship non-alcoholic products and merchandise everywhere and currently only ship beer to the following states:
AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, ID, IN, IA, KS, MD, MI, NE, NJ, NM, NY, NC, OR, SC, VA, WA.
Delivery can only be made to an address where an individual at least 21 years old can sign for the shipment. Proof of ID required.

They have had a disclaimer on top of their home page stating they aren't shipping while their website is being revamped. That's been going on for weeks. Their website is lousy so it's easy to miss. Previously they had stated they weren't shipping over holidays.

A lot of good stores have fallen by the wayside. 1 step forward, 2 steps back, it seems.:slight_frown:

They used to list the states they can ship to on their website. I can't find that info anymore.

I agree--In the case of Halftime I don't know if it's the legality issue or just the time and profit margin involved. I'm local to them and I never got the sense they wanted to do the shipping aspect and it was always more of a burden. It certainly raised their profile when they were known as shippers.

What do you guys think? Is it worth the shipping costs to be able to get stuff you can't otherwise get?

What sites do you guys use? And which do you feel is best?

Does anyone have any discount codes they could give out to the BA community?

I used to use Let's Pour but a quick Google tells me they stopped shipping beer last year. I found it to be kind of annoying at times because a lot of the online places tend to be at least what I'd pay in the store or more, then added shipping. In the case of LP they used to offer free shipping if you bought more than 6 bottles but of course by the time you got 6 overpriced bottles the free shipping isn't so free.

If I could find a place that have reasonable shipping and prices I'd probably order online again but it's a challenge, beer isn't cheap to ship due to weight and very few beers are worth the upcharge.
