I know its been over a year and half since the first announcement but World of Beer will be opening its doors this Spring in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Go follow them on Twitter and give them a like on Facebook. Spread the word! During the six weeks leading up to the opening there will be one winner a week for gift swag and gift cards from local breweries. https://www.facebook.com/WOBChelseaNY https://twitter.com/WOBChelseaNY
If it's anything like the one in New Brunswick (NJ), just don't bother ordering any of the food (overpriced and not very well made). If however you go primarily for the beer (as you definitely should), prospects are a little brighter. They have a very nice selection, but unfortunately not a very knowledgable staff (at least based on what I've observed), so it helps to know a bit about beer when you go. I'm guessing that most readers here should navigate the long list with no problem. I will say that it was a real treat to have St. Bernardus Abt 12 on draft. Around 10.99 for what seemed to be around an 8oz pour...but it was delicious (although served far too cold).
What glass was it served in? If it was in a St.B glass those are only 11oz glasses and with the head you would probably get about 8oz of beer. If it was in a tulip (13 or 14oz), you could maybe get 9-10oz of beer with the head. Its tough to keep up with glassware!! Theres also a location popping up in Hoboken as well. Not sure on the date though, I would assume later this year. How often do you go there?
WOB New Brunswick is not nearly on their game enough to serve in "#properglassware," rather all of their brews are served in un-marked snifters, tulips, and pints. Most of their brews are on the upper limit of pricing and served (too) cold. I can only speak for the New Brunswick NJ location but the bar seems more like a gimmick than and actual craft beer bar. And the atmosphere and bar tenders are sub-par at best.....
To add, went to their KBS tapping recently and it was VERY CLEAR that they do not tend to cleaning their lines nearly as much as they should. Just my 10 cents. Hope the NYC location is much different.
This is a perfect description of the Fort Myers location as well. The atmosphere reminded me of a Buffalo Wild Wings.
I have a BWW right near my house and I agree! My friends an I often finding ourselves screaming over the music or live bands... I mean, I LOVE live music, bur jesus, I would like to enjoy the company of my friends (and my beer) in an atmosphere that I can hear my own thinking.
Looks like they're targeting a July 13th open for the Chelsea location. The Coming Soon signs have been taken down.
The Stamford location price gouges anything they considet "special". They were charging $14/pint for Sip of Sunshine when it was first distributed to CT. I believe Gandhi Bot was over $10 as well.
