Yeah, this pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter and definitely someone who I would want to trade with in the future.

Something that I've been seeing more frequently that irritates me: when another BA comments on a FT:ISO thread stating they could do the same trade but to "take care of OP first." This is essentially thread-jacking.

but they are pretty much out of luck at that point right? Someone posts the generous FT, gets tons of PMs, realizes that they are being overly generous, but what can they do? Beer auctions are frowned upon. If they delete the previous thread and start a new one with a higher ISO for the same FT, I can't imagine that there isnt going to be someone make a stink about that.

My first trade was FT Pliny for Heady 2 for 2. I got a post in just a few minutes saying I should ask for 3 Heady. Of course I had several offers but I stuck with the first one that was 2 for 2. I am getting Pliny in two weeks from the brewery and will offer it first few people who responded to my original trade offer even though I closed it in about 5 minutes. Figure it is my duty to spread good beer to people who will appreciate it.

There's a difference between your "someone said I could get more" situation and the hypothetical "KBBS for a couple Heady" one though. The latter would be more the result of ignorance, like a person who didn't realize that they only made 400 of them and assumed he could get more. Yours was just a generous offer. I've done a few of those myself, usually just because I don't care too much and I like to share.

I also had a moment when I posted a drunken thread offering black note 1:1 for BB4D and people commented letting me know that BB4D was way more limited than I thought, and I was grateful for the input.

I may be in the minority here but if you make an ISO:FT post, even if drunk, you should honor the post. Otherwise anyone could come back at anytime and just say they 'were drunk'. If it seems like a good idea to post it drunk, honor it sober.

Well no, I was asking for something that I couldn't realistically get. I was trying to give away Black Note for a super limited brewery only release and it was a fool's errand. I've also done a couple of overly generous drunken trade offer and stuck to my guns. Usually after waking up the next day in a panic only to find out that someone has already taken you up on it. But it's worked out fine so far, so whateveer I guess.

Yeah I dont disagree with you. I prefer a longer term trading partner where winning isnt really a consideration.

The difference between being generous and being taken advantage of though is knowledge. if you know that your beer is more difficult to acquire than the other guys beer but are happy to make the trade, generous. If you dont know and the other guy does, taken advantage of.

But this is basically the same conversation that every collecting subgenre has. Comics, coins, art, whatever. If I know something that you dont about the item we are discussing, I have the upper hand. Should I disclose that or keep it a secret?

The core issue is should I disclose what I know. One opinion is that you dont have to. That is one opinion. The other is that you should. Somewhere in the middle is you dont disclose, but you make an honest offer.

People collect beer. Beer can and often does have a value above what the retail price was.

Just because someone is lacking information and is happy about a trade does not mean if they had full knowledge that they would still be happy about the trade.

Sorry, I get your general point about not trying to win every trade, but this is taking it to a ridiculous level - we're not talking about Last Snow for NG fruit beers here. Whoever would take someone up on this and trade some newb a couple of Heady for a KBBS is not a viable long-term trade partner. They are a douche looking to rip someone off.

I think the term generous is being used too generously in this thread. Most of the generous people are only generous for their own benefits, not to just share great beers. They want to earn reliable trading partners who will reciprocate the generosity. Since I've been on here I haven't seen anyone hook someone up with a KBBS randomly. Everyone needs to stop being so greedy and stingy. lol
