Probably been said repeatedly but when you spend money multiple times on expensive bombers that are average beers then you stop giving them the benefit of the doubt. I remember my buddy ordering their banana one that sounded amazing then you try it and it's meh. My buddy is not a snob at all and even he said this was a waste of money.

This is the right answer for more than just this question...

I haven't heard much praise on this site, although at least one of their beers is on the Beers of Fame list. I was about to pick that one up (Shakespeare Stout I think?) and then saw the price tag. I don't remember what it was, but it was enough to make me buy something else.

Like many others on here, I don't hate them - I just don't like them.
I haven't tried a single one of their beers that makes me want to run over and spend the money on it.
Some are decent - the Shakespeare, Yellow Snow, Dead Guy, a couple others, but I can get better beer at lower price at most any store around here.

I don't dislike any brewery as a whole. Anyone that throws pink bottles, faux flavors and gimmicks in their beer is questionable at best. Make good beer and people will follow as such.

For me it's not even that they are too 'experimental', they are just boring. Everything they make is so... bland. And yes, then there's stuff like Doughnut Maple Bacon...

    Also, they are pricey.

I love their Hazelnut Brown ale and their chocolate stout. Price hasn't been an issue with me for the bombers.

I was a bit skeptical of Rogue at first. Until I visited the hop farm, the barley farm, The Green Dragon, their brewery, and met the all the wonderful people that work there. Once I learned why they are the way they are, I am now a complete Rogue convert.

I have enjoyed 2 beers by Rogue (and have had many). The dead guy and the Northwestern Ale are VERY good, but I am not paying $12.99 for a 6 pack.

I like some stuff (Dirtior Black, Hazelnut brown, shakes stout, old and new crusty). I like the burgers at the brewery. I like their whiskey. They are located in my favorite OR coastal city (what up @mudbug).

I hate the service at the two Newport locations (multiple bad experiences). I am appalled at some of the notorious beers. The labor issues.

Most of all, I asked ONE time on one of their FB posts why they don't bottle date. They blocked me. So fuck Rogue.

No hate here, but no love either.

The market has caught up with their pricing to an extent, but for a long time they were on the top end of the bomber pricing spectrum, and their beers never justified it. Thus a lot of people were turned off to them a long time ago.

I wouldn't call it hate, but I'm not going to pay premium prices for mostly average beer from a brewery halfway across the country with a reputation for abusing their workforce. The craft beer market has grown too competitive for Rogue's pricing and shenanigans.

Now that's a unique take. Analogy to bullying and groupthink. Rogue as punching bag. I like it -- it makes sense. Trying to think of another brewery w/the same vibe and can't. Personally -- I can't stand Dogfishead the same way I can't stand Rogue beers (admittedly based on the minute series only) -- but I think generally folks like DFH on here.

They're ok, but expensive for what they are.

Hazelnut Brown and Chocolate Stout are great! But for me it's the price for the former and so many other options for the latter.

Agree with the sentiment of picking on the weak kid.

Despite their fall off in some areas, Dead Guy is a fantastic Maibock and one of the best American examples in the style IMO. Still really enjoy one from time to time. Bros gave it a 96 13 yrs ago and that beer tastes the same to me for over a decade. Worth 12$ to me.

OK there is stuff about crumby employee treatment in blogs, etc. Quirky beer in pink bottles--I get it.

Someone must keep buying all that Dead Guy (other than me).
