As a Poobah and as someone that did it in fun, your post is aimed at the wrong people IMO. It's rarely someone that's been around the block looking to maximize trade value and more likely some noob looking to flip their current walezbro into more walezbro.

That being said, anyone looking to trade $20 worth of Troegs Perpetual for a TG SR-71 is way off regardless of $4$. There is something to be said of rarity. Dollar amount only comes into play with similar rarities.

That all being said I'd never take advantage of someone for a beer I had, even a stranger, without making up for it.

Rarity has to play a factor but not the only factor.... I agree with you Nick most of the Poobah's are selective in their trading or they just don't care and want to spread the love. It's your newbs that are going to try and maximize every penny

Does anyone know if you can order from them and have them hold it until you get a full box?

Perhaps I should say the combo of rarity AND desirability is most important.

I usually will trade with someone I've dealt with in the past if I'm looking for something in particular. In those cases I don't have someone to reach out to I'll throw an ISO out and will either go over $4$ or will beat the value of what I'm looking for but besides VR I cant remember the last beer I was truly ISO.

I had something typed up along these lines, but this is much better said.

I will add though, that in addition to rarity, I also consider "cost of acquisition" as part of the cost; though certainly not to the point in @Houser's example.

For example, if one stands in a line for 6 hours to get a bottle, that's worth more than just the $ at the register. Similarly, if someone drives all the way up to HF, that beer is worth more than the $ at the register; this is why I don't have a huge problem with those that have DeGarde asking a little over $4$ (again, not $12:$30) for what they have.

I should also mention that when considering things moving away from $4$, I only see myself offering, not asking, but that's me personally.

Yes you can. Upon checkout you can click "Save for shipping at a later date" and then buy more stuff in a few weeks or whatever and keep doing that until you fill a box, then ask Kurt to ship.

Disagree. You trade beer on the merit and $ of the beer. We don't add an extra dollar because I'm 8 miles farther away and gas costs a little more for me to drive. I'm not taking into consideration anything else unless you have specifically asked me to go significantly out of my way for just a #gopickitupformebro

Fair enough @Dicers, this is something I'd offer if appropriate, not something I'd ever ask for, to be clear.

I disagree. You choose to make the drive to HF or to anyplace that requires a line to buy beer. Because I can walk-in and buy a beer somewhere it should trade at a discount to someone that chose to stand in line to offer a beer.

I've made two drives to VT for HF and Heady. I've never valued my time for anything. I guess mainly because I truly enjoy the travel and time spent in VT but the beer only cost what I bought it for.

That being said I get why people say that about HF/JK/Cigar City (are they CC yet) but it just doesn't hold water.

I agree 100%. I think this is what differentiates a business from a hobby.
If you have to justify/recoup expenses or make a profit (whether cash or beer), it's a business.
If you do it because you enjoy it (as I think all of us here do) it's a hobby.

I take joy in being called an idiot for not getting more in trades. I almost feel like a piece of shit when its not oz for oz let alone $4$. The way trades go now is enough for me to throw it all away. Gathered a small core group of traders and you guys along the way.

I think if you trade a rare beer for a bunch of rare beers you should at the very least make up $4$ with solid locals if not try to hit wants. That is what I do and I rarely am disappointed in what I sent an received. The minute you put an offer trading 4 bottles for a SR71 you set yourself to get a box with one beer unless you clarify you would like a $4$ to be made up. Not everyone out there has a swtfyw mentality!

That being said what would I have to add to a Cherry Rye to land a sr71? I'm falling for the bait I guess. I have the assassin and my buddies (took 3 of the) landed a kbbs. Figure if I land the sr71 that would be cool to show up with.
