Hopefully our trade for the Assassin was all good for you?

Id say Cherry Rye would need a nice plus for the SR71, for how they both trade and bottle counts. You know all that stupid stuff?

Funny you mention that as I traded 7 BCBCS last year when I stumbled into a bunch of it for a Prop and I actually added good extras because I thought I was getting a good deal at the time.

I'm with you I would think Assassin gets you into that share regardless of SR 71 @RayOhioFelton

That trade for assassin was so generous on your end. Knowing what that bottle gets then you matched my other bottles straight up. It was awesome. I wouldn't have got half that in open waters.

Definitely agree with you Ray. If I had a rare beer (which isn't often), and I was offered a bunch of othe rare stuff for it, I'd definitely make up $4$ with wants or other extras. No need to fleece someone just because your beer is more desirable. At the end of the day it's just beer and you want the other guy to be happy when he opens the box.

The sr71 is just a bonus. Think it would be a fun surprise if I can land it.

I actually understand gnus know to an extent... When you think about the whole wine and cheese place exclusive release to reward their top customers and at that there was 108 bottles. The only way for them to decide their "top customers" fairly would be to keep track of loyalty points. How does one earn points? By spending money, so then factor in the fact that many people who wanted try this beer had to spend $200+ plus to be on the list of top customers. Some specifically went and spent just to make the list. Then you still had to buy the bottle at $30, so while yes they didn't just make a donation and walk with nothing. A lot of guys did spend money just to get anabasis. Now think after it's all said and done and you have a bottle, is $4$ Gonna have any sort of validity to stranger? Probably not, believe me coming from someone who has IMO the very best of the best trading partners out of MO, only one of them got a bottle and it wasn't even a question of whether it was trade, he apologized for not sending it but that he hadn't got to try it and was really looking forward to it, this is the same person that sent his only merci without even thinking twice because that bottle was available to taste at the cellar. But Ananbasis was not and is the first barley wine from side project. Anabasis was just a perfect storm of what makes a bottle hard to trade for, I don't usually like to take to open waters like I did but I knew what I was getting into and in happy  the guy actually has a pretty good heart and wrote me that he is sending a couple glass', la fosse, grisette and something else. Is it crazy to see bottles go for that, yes. Would I trade quantity like that my self? Probably not but I wouldn't trade that bottle to begin with either...

As I have said before, by all means give me shit , I have plenty of friends here that tell me I'm stupid for trading what I have for side project. For the most part I would do the same haha. The one thing I'll say from personal experiments is that the out I of the trades I have made that might have seems one sided at the start. I have truthfully made some of the best friends i have made in the beer world who are now regular trading partners that I talk with regularly or made up with extras. Not saying they needed to but that's just how most guys are. It's juts like the fact that I'll still toss extras in the anabasis trade cause that's just what I do. Does it suck that's what it has come to I order to get some of these crazy beers, yes. Do I think they are "worth it", most of the time probably I would say no if taste is the only factor. But if I factor in the enjoyment that I'll bring to a group of friends than I'll trade whatever it takes. Half of me collecting side project is because I really enjoy the beer and it was a challenge to have some fun with, the other 50% if not more is me doing it for some of my friends that either couldn't trade for some of those bottles themselves or have done similar things and it's all a big cycle of generosity. Rather than than look at the glass as half empty and that people are greedy, try and think of it as the glass is half full and someone is just overly generous :grinning: Anyways, again I'm open to give shit to and I promise you won't hurt my feelings

In the train home from work and my seat-mate's "passive aggressively make you uncomfortable for forcing me to share a seat" game was on-point. Of course it is rush hour train and seating is a premium. I am lazy and also up to a challenge so I call his bluff and sit down, despite his leg being halfway onto my seat. I bump when sitting, apologize, and keep riding, but this dude actually leans into it and gets that leg further over into my domain, initiating some serious thigh contact. Like this shit has to be a base, at least in cricket. Like 1.5th base of something. Then he makes sure his phone is visible and starts browsing the tinder dudes forum or whatever other app he has for swipeable shirtless men. And he's really into it, fingers of fire. So into it that I am thinking maybe I just helped make his day, but it is also so overtly pervy that I am intrigued by the level of his obvious bluff. Our time together was brief, as he soon disembarked, but I am left with the impression that his "seat to myself" game was some next-level shit and that my thigh may never be the same.

Bottom line, if the sides involved in the trade are happy then who else gives a shit  and I do have to agree that you CAN'T place extra value for time spent going to get the beer... That was your choice to drive that far, if I choose to drive to Vermont to finally make it to hfs and I drive all the way from AZ, does it make more valuable than a bottle that someone in Vermont drove a couple hours for, No... Maybe in sentimental value tied to the experiences of the trip like @PA-Michigander brought up, but sentimental value holds no real trade value... Just my opinion.

I dunno. I take trading w a grain of salt. If I want a bottle that bad I usually go in on it w my tastING group. Yah we over pay but hey amongst 4 or 5 it's not much per individual. If I know the person I'll stick to $4$. If I don't I'll trade at the current rate. And 9 times out of 10 I answer an iso rather than post my own. This way no haggles. If I'm getting more in regards to money spent I will usually always do good on sending extras. The surprises are the best part. Not gonna critique anyone's trading habits but a lot of you have swapped w me and I've always gone $4$
