Isn't it like 5:30 am there? Shouldn't you still be in bed? Or somewhere else doing something else? I was about to have my Bacon Egg and Cheese Bagel from Dunkin'. Think I'll just go vomit now instead.

note to self: rub my twig and berries all over the next beers i send to @Haywire as i was very offended he traded away the beers i sent him.

in all seriousness @bostonbeans, i am with @zekeman17 on this one. if someone sends me beer, i have a very hard time trading it away. i know ive done it once recently, and i still feel bad about it, but i knew the person i sent it to would appreciate it way more than me. like, ive literally contemplated including a beer in a trade that was sent to me from elsewhere, and i always decide to keep it.

truthfully speaking, i know i get ever so slightly annoyed when i see a beer i sent get moved on (ive seen it once, and now bob admitted to it, you filthy bastard, what my beer is not good enough for you?). although i do think some people move beers because they are extremely generous people and would much rather give.

Good question, and I can see the value in airing out thoughts on this since so many ninjas are jumping from coast to coast.

I for one would probably feel an initial shock ("Hey… that was special"), but then the more I think about it, it really is a gift that they can do whatever they like with. And we don't know the drill. Maybe they've had it before. Maybe it's not their thing. Maybe they just would rather have a X, Y, or Z, and isn't it cool that we helped them get it?

That's just me always trying to give the benefit of the doubt… but probably too much for my own good. But yeah… I totally see both sides.

Wait a minute. We don't all do this?

So a multi-faceted response based on how someone acquired said beers....

    • #gopickitupformebro: While is slightly poor form if you pay for the beers and provide a label those beers are yours through and through you're free to do whatever the hell you want
    • Established Trade: Fully able to do whatever you want with the beer. If it is a fair trade then it's your beer and you swapped goods for said beer. I have made trades to contribute to BIF's or when my group is chasing something especially big
    • BIF: For the most part this is in the same regards as an Established Trade. I wouldn't use the those beers in the same BIF (for example I received a DORIS in the stout BIF and immediately BM'd my sender to let him know I also planned on sending one before I got his and didn't want him to think I was flipping it) However if later on you want to trade it go for it.
    • LIF: Now we're in sticky area. If it's a pay to play LIF (Donations etc) then sure it's more like a BIF or Established trade. If it's a beer giveaway I think it's a case by case basis leaning towards it being okay.
    • Ninja Box: Eeeehhhh I say drink the beer/share the beer. A ninja is unwarranted and you should do what you want, but I think it's a bit tacky to redistribute the beer.
    • Help out: We've all done it... Someone in here says ahhh I really want to try that! One of us steps up and sends it to them for nothing, no trade or anything. You can't flip these this is the absolute no no. This sometimes falls in line with the Ninja Box.
I just sent you ANTEAD beers. You were looking for them I combined the help out/Ninja box to get them to you. I would be upset if you flipped the bottle on me. I sent my set because I wanted to help you out.

    EXCEPTIONS:
    • Extras: Extras are Extras and you're free to do whatever you want
    • LIFS: If you do a LIF with a bottle you receive whether here or donate a box to a LIF like @RayOhioFelton 's CF LIF
    • Within our thread: We sometimes receive beer from each other and then share it with another person. As long as you're paying it forward and not doing it in a trade I think that's fair game since we're family
If you receive beer and you're unsure just ask who sent it to you especially within our group we're all open with one another.

I need to add: on occasion I've given away beer that came my way. But that's just to spread the love around. @RayOhioFelton gave me a couple Dark Apps, and after drinking one it was clear that some other douchebag in this thread needed to try it, too. Same thing with the initial batch of Orpheus that came my way via @FATC1TY. Dude sent me a sixer (or was it a fourer?), so I figured why not chuck one in a box headed to Cali?

When I've done this, I've wondered, "will the original sender think I'm spurning his love?"

Also: although I kind of understand why people might trade away a bottle, I probably wouldn't do it myself.

Noted. No more selling to the highest bidder. This whole convo makes my insides hurt a little, I ain't gonna lie. On a positive note, porches in Lexington and Boston are gonna get fucked up today. 90 pounds of beer hitting 2 porches.

I personally don't like to send away stuff I've gotten in a box from anyone, especially beers that I've been sent for no apparent reason (I'm looking at you, @Mipper and @PA-Michigander and @zekeman17 and @ThreeFishes). Of those 3 boxes I got back in January, I have 1 bottle left and drank the rest. Beer is meant to be enjoyed. If I haven't had something or friends haven't had it, I won't trade it away for something else, and this goes doubly for beers that I was sent in good faith.

On the other hand, I have sent out beers that I've gotten in box from someone else when I am getting a 6-pack or more, and only as extras. I gave out probably a third of the case of NYFRB that @blue-dream grabbed for me and about the same of the case of Gose that @jfstilling sent me last summer. I enjoy spreading the wealth and it shouldn't be thought of as "spurning" the original sender's love.

#VBS ...I wasn't PLANNING to drink this at 9AM, but when you have the day off and your kid knocks it off a table, what are you going to do, waste an 8-day-old top-shelf IPA? HELL NO!

I fall mostly on the side of beer in hand is yours to do with as you will. Now, if someone says they're hard ISO of a beer, and I ninja them or even set up a trade, I think that's different. But, if I get a WTFYW box, I consider those beers to be fair game (especially to forward on as opposed to trading). For instance, I got a great box from @end_27 recently that had 2 of a certain beer in it that I love, but I also have 2 or 3 stashed away. So, Bronce will have one of the 2 bottles landing today b/c it's a great beer, and I want to share the wealth. Not a trade, just an extra beer that is delicious that I happen to have a few extra of. I can definitely understand the other side of this though.

From my view point...........anything I send out is yours to do with as you see fit. So to anyone I ever sent to......i'm ok with it.

I like @Dicers general outline. I am guilty of freely giving away bottles. I am one that fits the highlights above, I love to give beer away. If I have gifted a beer anyone here has given me, and it offended you, I am sorry. No offence was meant, but chances are it went to someone else here. I truly believe that if you pay for it or trade for it......then do with it what you will.

Sometimes if I want to gift a bottle to someone I clear it with who I received it from ahead of time and explain my thoughts. I did this with @ThreeFishes with the 6 year BCBS vertical that I am donating to the CF LIF

In summary, I'm sorry if I have done this and offended anyone here, it wasn't intentional (except the giving beer part :grinning:). If you got it from me.....you can play a game of hoppy showers with @Haywire if you want and I won't care.

    Giving is better than receiving..........24/7....365.
