I'm sure a similar question has been asked before but I couldn't locate anything in the Great Lakes forum. I'll be driving through the Cleveland area from NYC on my way to East Lansing, MI and am planning to stop at Fat Heads (either the brewery location or the North Olmstead brewpub). I was wondering if there are any bottle shops nearby that have been known to carry Jackie O's, or possibly a growler fill of Bodhi (a stretch) or (insert other notable OH beer here). Any info is greatly appreciated, as is tolerance for a newbie to the OH beer scene. Cheers!
Bodhi will be a stretch. It's very easy to find in Columbus, but I'm assuming you won't be making your way down. I can't speak to Jackie O's, though it will depend on what you're looking for. Cans of their core offerings are fairly plentiful all over Ohio, but the 375s can be hit or miss. Again, the farther south you go, the better your odds.
I travel quite a bit for work & everytime that I go somewhere new, I use the Place function here on BA & search for bottle shops that way. Look for the highest ranked & use the GPS...if you're like me then you'll spend way too much money. I just got back from Dayton, OH & spent almost $300 on beer
When are you passing through? Bodhi isn't a stretch, it's always at a growler fill it seems or at least in the Lakewood area. Try Rozis or Ross Deli.
Bodhi almost always on tap at Rozi's in Lakewood, just west of Cleveland. They're like a Bodhi factory. A keg of it kicked yesterday, and they had a fresh one to put right on. If they're out, Ross's is a good bet too. You definitely do not need to head south to get Bodhi.
Stop at this place http://www.saveoncraftbeer.com/tap.cfm. Basically 100 rated on BA, great prices, they sell singles of everything and right off the highway on your way into cleveland. If you call them ahead of time and say your coming from New York they will set aside a box for you. Fat heads, revolution, brew kettle, jackie o's all available.
Also, NO location opens at 12pm and the brewery doesn't open till 4pm most days, when I was driving through earlier this year that is what made my decision.
Wow, I live in Mentor and stop here all the time and had no idea they had a website! Thanks for the link, it's now in my favorites. I'll give a big +1, they have great customer service and a great selection. A couple miles east on the street and also a great beer selection (particularly good growler fills though I've found a couple past-dated bottles on shelves) www.worldwinesohio.com/beer/whats-on-tap/ Willoughby Brewing is also practically on the same street, west of Save On. Must try the Peanut Butter Cup Porter.
You should be able to find some of the Jackie o's bottles around like paw paw wheat, dark apparition and brick kiln. They haven't releaed a Ba beer since oil of Aphrodite a month or so ago. Some places may still have Ba wood burner sitting around if you're lucky.
