Then you would use a term more like 'Now that's how I like my stout' not 'that's true to style'. The latter asserts that there is laid down universal law of styles.

I was thinking of going with "style-accurate" but that sounds almost as pretentious. Back to the drawing board, I guess.

It asserts that there are guidelines to generally define and differentiate styles of beer, which there are.

I've referred to Shaun Hill as just "Shaun" twice, which is too many times, like we're best friends or something, like we have lunch together twice a week. I'm an ass.

It asserts something a lot more definitive than pale ales being different from stouts.

You gotta have bot beer brewed with Brettanomyces and spent some time around horses and the barnyard to have a shot at understanding.

Here's an extended discussion of what some folks use it to mean.

Spied a few whalez at my local bottle shop, cracked one open mid session in my cellar and served in a tulip - turned out to be a really crushable offering with intense tropical fruit and lingering dank aroma!.

"Brewed with pride/passion" really gets to me, because it is so overused.

"Unspoiled" - well I would hope so!

Totally agree with those who said "quaffable" - to me it's such a pretentious, English Public School word that makes me cringe. If anyone I knew used it (unless ironically) I wouldn't hesitate to punch them in the mouth.

Could someone explain to me what "whalez" is supposed to mean please?

Back a few years ago people started to refer to rare hard to find beers as being white whales. That got shortened to whales and then re-spelled as wales (probably by accident since it didn't last all that long). Then for a while it became the norm that people who used the term referred to walez. Eventually that got re-expanded to Whalez, sometimes accompanied by "bro."

So its rare, hard to catch beers.

Using the term 'sour' to describe a vast number of beer styles.

My ears hurt every time I hear this.

Sour doesn't count if the beer is *intentionally* sour

And styles evolve. Nobody brews an IPA like the original ones, mild was a strong pale beer in my grandfather's day. There are IPAs of 3.6% ABV and 30 IBU and have been all my lifetime.

'Mineral' - I have read reviews that describe variously the flavour, mouthfeel and even the smell as 'mineral'.

'Wet mouthfeel'. Yep, a liquid product will give you that.

Just to report on some olfactory truths from my perspective, I would allow that cumin, coriander, and peaches all are evocative, alluring, and deeply sexy. The combo smells a bit like sweat, but better. I've learned quite a lot from my hounds!
