Is there any way to cancel a trade once both parties have agreed to trade? I've have a trading partner who is trying to back out of a deal we agreed upon. Communication has been excellent up until a week ago, now all I have gotten was" I was sick". Due to that issue he wants to back out of the trade because he doesn't think he will be able to fulfill it any time soon. The part that gets me is, he has posted recently on the trading board seeking beers. Am I SOL on the trade? Will it affect MY trade reputation if the trade doesn't get completed and stays "open"? Any advice would be helpful!

If neither of you leave feedback after 90 days, the Open trade will disappear.

I have been wondering the same thing. I somehow opened up two trades with the same person and was wondering how to cancel one. I also was wondering would people look and see that I have an open trade that has not closed and hold it against me?

See my post above; it will eventually disappear after 90 days without feedback from both parties.

More information on the feedback system, if interested, is here.

Perhaps you should call them out...that sounds like shopping around for "better deals"

Did you use the feedback system? If so, and he wants out of the trade but is still posting threads then I would leave neutral feedback with an explanation about what happened. No one is out any beer so negative feedback isn't warranted, even though this can be very irritating.

People who back out of trades IMMEDIATELY go on my personal DNT list. Really don't care what the reason is. If you knew I was going out specifically to get or buy beers for our alleged trade, that's even worse, and I'll share your name with every trader I know as a d-bag.

Yeah it sucks because now I need to find someone who is ISO the beers I went and bought.

If only there were another option.

Surely you're not insinuating that he drink them?!?! (Queue the "Don't call me Shirley" jokes).

Wholeheartedly disagree. If the feedback system had not been used, that would be a diff story, but once accepted that is an obligation. At that point ppl go buy beer b/c it is considered a done deal. In the days before the feedback system the deal was done after addresses were exchanged. If someone backed out after that, they were called out. Same situation here. If people can't trust the system will do anything, they won't use it. There also needs to be honor amongst traders. The trading scene is getting worse every year because people are getting away with this crap, and it is becoming a norm.

I'd leave negative feedback in this case.

I just had someone back out of a trade. This is what he had to say:

    Hey,

I hate to be that guy, and I don't believe in bidding wars so I didn't say what others had offered. Someone just messaged me with an offer I am going to take. It was the same as yours plus some small extras. I was trying to get beer for my brother's surprise birthday party, and the small extras will help me have more variety. If the deal falls through, I will contact you asap. Hope you understand.

    Thanks.

Did you use the system and he accepted and then sent this?

Of course you understand...that s/he is an unreliable, insensitive & presumptuous douche. I love the past where s/he will contact you if the other deal falls through. Sheesh.

Note, the comment I just made assumed this trade was finalized, ie a trade request was made & accepted OR, s/he clearly stated, with no misinterpretation possible, that s/he was committing to the trade with you. A trade that is really, really, realllly close to being finalized but falls through, can be aggravating, but the other person doesn't have an obligation to follow through until & unless it's been finalized.

I see that you didn't use the system. Had the other person ever actually committed to making the trade? Close, in this situation, doesn't count. That's just among the frustrations inherent in the tumultuous world of beer trading.

We had date, time and location decided and the trade was definitely finalized. I am annoyed but his account was set up the day he posted the trade so I had a pretty good feeling something like this would happen. Just wanted to share my story. Thanks for listening.

I'd encourage someone to do this.

Then tag both people, invite them into this thread, & we can watch the polite, genteel discussion that will result.

It really depends on the circumstances for backing out of the trade. While we take beer pretty serious here, it really does take a back seat to life. If something in life comes up that prevents you from completing a trade, good communication is key. Most traders will be understanding, and if the beer is not needed urgently, the trade can be completed in the future.

In this particular case, it appears the trader backed out, used "life" as an excuse and continues to post trade requests. If he refuses to follow through you should leave negative feedback. If he leaves negative feedback for you, report it and they will be dealt with by admin.

@RobotScott given that he agreed to the trade, it would be fair to request that he follow through on the commitment he made. If he won't do that, you should consider starting a thread that lets other members know that he's unreliable & inconsiderate. It could save them time, money & needless frustration.

We were all new traders at one time. Compared to many people I'm a fairly recent trader myself. Being 'new' is a crap excuse. Additionally, when new traders fuck up, it potentially undermines trust for other virgin traders. I've seen numerous instances where experienced traders state that they're unwilling to trade with new traders or that they restrict trading to RTPs only.

If his word is that worthless at least warn others so they know to avoid him.
