Of course they do. Do you think they sent bottles out that were bad on purpose? They obviously cannot taste every single bottle, and they can't control what happens after bottling and shipping. Not defending them, but you act like this was intentional and they knew about it all along, and just didn't give a shit about the end consumers.

Breweries make mistakes. To assume they're doing it on purpose just to shaft the people buying the beer is stupid.

My local pub had a Green Flash tap takeover tonite and they had the 2015 Silva Stout . Was tasty , no off flavors .

Got two batch 1 bottles while passing through Nashville, TN back in April. I opened one up about a week ago and it was just fine. Nothing bad or off about it. I don't know if it was $20/bottle good, but still very enjoyable.

I just opened my Cellar 3 Batch 1 bottle last night and it was horrible. Not a butter bomb, more like toilet water smell and just an off taste. Super bummed.

Now I don't know what to do with my four bottles.

Try one. If one is bad, they're all bad. It's a regional thing from what I gather. I heard from Green Flash again, this time from the barrel master. They opened another 12 bottles and 16 kegs. No problems. Maybe all the bad beer came from a couple of barrels. Not sure. But it's ver rare I drain pour half a bottle, let alone an $18 one

My two bottles were both bad as well. $40 wasted

I purchased three bottles of this and sent one to a friend. Neither of us have opened them yet and now I am not sure I want to. For the record, I purchased them during the original release here in Arizona. I read on here this seems to be an East Coast problem. Anyone here in AZ or neighboring localities having this issue?

Damn! I just picked up 2 and was really looking forward to popping a bottle in a couple weeks. AND I have one up on the trading block too, but now Im going to remove it. Don't want to take the chance trading an "off" brew to someone. I have a bottle share tomorrow, so me and the fellas will see what is up with this one and I can report back then.

Would the guys at green flash be interested in my other assumed-to-be infected bottle? I'm definitely not opening it or going to pawn it off on somebody

If the bottle I try tomorrow does end up tasting infected, I will reach out to Green Flash for a shipping label and send the second bottle in for inspection. I don't expect any kind of refund, but want the brewery to understand/fix the problem. This is a great brewery overall. Things can slip through the cracks, so I'm not too upset.

West coast bottles can be infected as well. Picked up a bottle in Portland last weekend and cracked it open last night. Smelled like movie theater popcorn as soon as the cork came off. Me and a buddy each tried a sip but down the drain it went. Pretty bummed I didn't see this thread until now.

I had a bottle two days ago. Definitely a huge diacetyl presence. A very noticable off flavor. I agree, this is 100% a quality control issue.

If you look at recent reviews of the beer, and reports on this thread, you will see the problem has not been endemic to the East Coast. Bad bottles have found their way to most regions in the country. I got one in Seattle.

Alright, with all these negative reviews I can't in good conscience take this to a bottle share so I popped it in the fridge. I'll open in about an hour and report back. My bottle is a 2015 Cellar 3 Batch #1 bottled in Feb 2015.

Perhaps bring a backup bottle, but I think it is fine to take it to a bottle share - if it is fine, and there are no problems it will be awesome. If it isn't then everyone gets to see what diacetyl is like, and you pull out the back up bottle.

If I was attending, I wouldn't have a problem with that - I would actually be very interested in seeing what the fuss was about

The good news, or bad news depending on how you look at it, is that I have a second bottle with the same batch/date. So if it's bad it can still be used as a teaching moment (thanks for the idea), and if it's good then I can share one of the good ones with people who may have otherwise not had the chance at one.

Was planning on sitting on this beer for another 6 months or so, but what with all the grievances and negative experiences, I decided to open my one and only Silva stout. So far it tastes like a good BA stout should...guess I was one of the lucky ones, or I don't have a very discerning palate....
