Try this------------ AAL is soda pop with alcohol and craft beer is similar to wine. This beverage is in Binny's in Chicagoland and I'll try it soon after reading this post.

This for sure. Not a beer we will drink a lot of but more of something fun for non-craft drinking friends to try. Have a 12 pack at your next BBQ with your BMC friends to start the discussion. Or, when having a dinner party you can have adult rootbeer floats instead of some crappy dessert.

Didn't know it was coming to MI. My wife got me some in Indiana, it was okay, but not THAT rootbeery. Better than the sprecher hard rootbeer though. I was going to trade the rest of it, if anyone wanted to try it, but if it is coming here, that won't be happening.

Now the 10.7% version was very good. Has it on tap in chicago. It was a great dessert sipping drink.

none the less it contains malt and is fermented like beer, but it does not contain hops.

sidenote, their bottom menu website is absolutley horrible. thought it had no menu until i was about to close it.

Why are some people on here saying it's a flavored malt beverage (like a Mike's) and not a beer? Their website says clearly that it's a spiced beer. I'm not defending NYFRB (I had never even heard of it until last week), just legitimately curious.

When was the last time you drank an AAL fast ? When was the last time you pounded a craft beer?

Happened upon some in Ohio while visiting relatives over the weekend (of course HAD to buy some). Can't wait to see this on local shelves. Apparently it's seen in Macomb county but no dice yet in Oakland.

Their website says that, yes. It also doesn't list ingredients or anything in it, and you don't have to list ingredients on packages. None the less I found some articles discussing it more, and that it contains no hops, just malt. Which makes it a malted beverage and not a beer.

I am not defending either point, just info I found. If someone wants to try it in Lansing sooner rather than later, let me know.

If you like root beer soda then you will love it. It tastes like a quality old-fashioned fizzy root beer soda. Maybe a bit more vanilla and spice forward though. It tastes nothing like a beer and the alcohol is not evident in the taste at all.

I probably won't buy it very often but it is very well made for what it is.

I'll buy it for making root beer floats for my family (21+ ) on labor day. They'll all have no idea, but will love it when I tell them.

Is this stuff still good with 3-6 months on it?

I'd like to pick up a 6-pack, drink 1, use a few for floats, and share a couple over the summer.

The website also claims his great grandfather in the 1600's (you can do the math) was a captain of a ship and blah blah blah. I was recently asing about the high abv stuff in chi and many people had, again rumors, that the 19.5 was not currently being produced due to the abv being boosted by NGS.

As far as claiming this is a beer, that's ludicrous. Taste it. Look where its made. Look at the price point-someone knows this gravy train is coming to an end and soon; so why not get 10.99 For a 6er?

I've been slowly working through a case since Oct/Nov (I think), they still taste fine. These are great with food. In fact, I don't really like to drink while I eat but these are great with it.

What ABV version did you have? From posts by others about this beer, it sounds like the low power version does not get the favorable comments that you just made in your post, so did you have the higher octane version, or are you saying the lower ABV version is pretty good after all?

The 5.9% tastes like root beer with slightly more spice and the slightest alcohol tinge. You need to know there's alcohol in it to be able to detect it. If you told someone it was a root beer they'd believe you.
