LOL!!! I was going to ask about those exact two stores... both have amazing staff and always helpful.

I echo these sentiments. Actually, I think all Craft Beer Cellars have nice people working there. The company must train them not to be rude (or filter those kinds of people out), because I've been appalled by some other stores in my neck of the woods. I feel like this is a new trend as well. I hate to stereotype, but these types of jerks have been mentioned already in this thread. I also wont name store names, but I had one guy tell me he thought his customers were stupid and that he didn't think they were worthy of his selection. Alrighty then!

I wont stand for people in the craft beer community who think they are better than other people. This goes for anything else as well.

CBC is the beer geeks dream store. They also have all their current inventory online.

Totally disagree. I have spent thousands of dollars in a store, only to find CS unfriendly, and not willing to put aside special phone or email orders with lots of notice.

On the other hand, I shop in a big liquor store where the owner will go out of his way to help me choose a wine, beer, or whiskey. CS is the name of the game. I am courteous- and I expect a two way street in the service industry.

I avoid the places you speak of. Thankfully, my favorite establishment has a really good staff. They treat their regulars like family.

What are your thoughts about calling someone out on being rude?

I've taken a similar approach over the years. The thing is though, the more I went to my favorite restaurants and such it would eventually be the case that they would do something that is clearly in the "I'm never coming back" category. So then over time, no joke, I had no longterm places that I went to because they had all done something majorly wrong.

What I learned from this is that if you find a place that you decide is excellent and you love, then don't go there again. If you do, you're bound to have the bad experiences and then have to cross them off of your list, thereby making yourself bitter about it. It's better to regard them as good and leave them in an ideal state in your mind. Feels better.

I see nice and helpful people everywhere. Some know a lot about beer and others know less. I really don't need to be directed around a beer store, but where I do go I am acknowledged and engaged. There is an occasional prick, but they don't last. The customers that I see are the biggest source of angst. All in all, most people that I observe, customers and retail employees, are polite and helpful. The incidence of butthole behavior is spread evenly amongst our brethren and businesses.

I usually only frequent 3 beer stores because they have the best selection of craft beer. But there is one in general I always go to more than the others. This place has knowledge of all types of craft, rare, and imported beers/also due to their huge selection of such. Very polite and experienced owners there. But like Greywulfken said earlier I don't expect many owners to know much about craft beers. Nonetheless I have had only positive responses from shop keeps...
unless its a dive type store in the hood then expect some local kindness.

Hmm, I remember some dude at Total Wine Towson having a 'tude when I asked him If they had gotten any Prairie Bomb! in. He was all, "Eeuuugh, we don't get Prairie here" + dumbass face. And I'm thinking, "We'll I know other stores in MD got some so don't act like I'm stupid for not knowing distribution skipped over you, dipshit."

But besides that, I've found beer store bros to be quite chillaxed and approachable.

They should be nice all the time. I mean, that is part of the reason they're getting paid.

Most, if not all here in Raleigh are very friendly and helpful. On occasion I get some hipster sass, but there are so many choices that most places know they need good customer service to survive. That said, I'm sure they get asked the same questions daily(where's the Heady or Pliny when they are not distributed to the area), so I can see a need to choke back sarcasm from time to time. I do get the clueless guy at Total Wine who's eyes glaze over when you ask if for a more esoteric beer. Damn wine snobs!

In my first response to this thread, I merely stated an example of types of customers that we get, you manipulated that into me mocking my customers, as if they're in front of me. This is BeerAdvocate, these are my people, I don't mind being honest. So, we are all uninformed at one point or another, in everything, that is common sense. To anyone whose worked in this industry alongside of what I do, understands, we've had this thread already without animosity, there was no need for it. Just bring it down man. As I was just making examples of our Florida requests but we're a good place for craft, we have no issues out of the store. We constantly take requests, give things out like beer signs, half barrels, good customers get 10% off here all the time, we have a yearly cellar release, we try to save bottles when we can, we beg our distributors for limited releases. If you're ever in town, please, private message me and I'll accommodate, I'd love to share a beer.
