I realize Hefeweizens fall victim to style bias, and also these guys don't have a whole lot of reviews under their belt, but does anyone else feel their ratings are far too low? I sampled three of their beers tonight and thought all were stellar. This also may just be an excuse for me to profess my love of Germans (beer, that is).

I had never heard of them until I ran into some of their bottles in Las Vegas a few years ago. On my last trip to Munich, I noticed that the new'ish Tegernsee Tal hall served their weissbiers. They've been good in my experience, although some of those Vegas bottles were a bit old.

I don't do the ratings thing but I thought the hell version was fantastic.

IMO due to the US craft boom and love of IPAs, a lot of the German and English beers are sitting ( a lot) longer on the shelves. Add to that the time involved with export, transport, importer to wholesaler to retailer chain and you're lucky to get fresh stuff.

Douglas, another frustrating aspect is that not all of the European breweries provide dates on their bottles. Due to lack of dating I frequently resist buying bottles of Ayinger, Schlenkerla, etc. I typically only buy seasonals from those breweries and cross my fingers they aren't over a year old.

For those breweries that provide best by dates, I assume that the timeframe is 1 year and I base my purchases accordingly.

    Cheers!
