    @Pliny_the_Gelder

    yeah those are the good bottles. That was the first batch. I have two myself and have already drank one. Look at the reviews and you'll notice every review noting a bottle date of 2/16/15 is 4+/5

    Damn, good to know - my remainders are all the same date.

    I had a Cellar 3 with a February 16, 2015 bottling date and it was horrible. Still have the bottle and just confirmed the date again.

    Well that batch was fine to me and a bunch of other people so i guess some of their barrels were contaminated in every bottled date.

    Based on the reviews on various rating sites, 99% is incredibly optimistic. Did he offer a refund if they are not fine?

    Between this and the stuff they're labeling as "alpine," I've lost considerable faith in Green Flash.

    They also asked me the retailers name and address. I gave them the distributor info also. At least they are looking into the problem. I have heard many times that breweries don't do anything. I drain poured one and am sitting on one more

    Opened a Feb. 16th bottle last night and was extremely disappointed. Man I used to love Green Flash and the fact that this beer made it out of their facility is a disgrace. This clearly can't be how they want to represent Cellar 3.

    Had it on draft a while back. I thought it was very good. No glaring flaws at least in that instance. I passed on bottles because even with my good exerience I didn't deem it worth the price.

    We're only "getting reports" from the tiny fraction of beer drinkers that are so far down the craft beer rabbit hole that they frequent sites like BA, so for all we know 99% of them are OK. Hell, we've sold almost 30 cases of the stuff with only one complaint so far about diacetyl, and AFAIK the replacement bottle was fine because the guy hasn't come back again with any more issues.

    @maltmaster420 Soooooo I bought two bottles. Drank/drained one and the other is in my cellar. What should people like me do with the other bottle? I'm assuming it's going to have the same problem. I have no problem eating the cost and considering it a lesson learned but I'm also hopeful that the problem will get resolved as it seems as though it was a problem limited to a short time frame about a month ago. (Time frame loosely based on BA and other similar sites with rating systems)

    I'm not sure what to recommend. If you're not comfortable with the risk after drinking the first one you could try and return it to the store, or you could wait and see if Green Flash acknowledges that it's a widespread problem and offers some sort of compensation.

    You could also just stick it in the cellar and ignore it for a while. Diacetyl is often "cleaned up" as the beer ages and the yeast in the bottle continues doing its thing, so there's a chance the beer could just be in a weird stage right now.

    I was hoping I'd have one of the good bottles. Nope.

    When I had the beer on tap it was fantastic. But the bottle I just opened, batch 01, bottled on 2/16/15, had that same movie popcorn butter aftertaste. It's unmistakable. That flavor came through at the tail end of the finish, and was really unpleasant. That was a tough $20 drain pour. But I couldn't drink it.

    I don't know if the bad batch went nationwide, I got my bottle in northern Virginia.

    2/16 bottle purchased in Pittsburgh, PA and it was garbage. Diacetyl all over. Buttered popcorn and burnt Werthers Originals.

    As I indicated in the portion of my post that you did not quote, I am aware there is a problem relating to sampling bias here. I'm not foolish enough to think that just because most of the posts in this thread (and many of the recent reviews) regarding Silva Stout have come from unhappy customers means that most of the release is bad. On the contrary; as I wrote, the dissatisfied tend to make themselves heard disproportionately loudly. But if there have been this many bad reports from so many parts of the country, even if only from those on the bottom of the "craft beer rabbit hole" that is BA, it seems to me more probable than not that the problem with the beer cannot just be limited to 1% (or less) of the bottles. The issue is simply too widespread, and present in too much of the national allocation, for it to be that small. That's why I found Green Flash's assertion self-serving and dismissive at best.

    Does it not also seem possible to you that many of your customers, and other customers around the country for this particular product, forced it down or poured it (or haven't even opened it yet, given how recently it was released) without uttering a public word of complaint? Either because they were unaware of this forum, shop at your place very little, did not understand what a "diacetyl bomb" tasted like, or did not think it was in any way worth their trouble to say anything? At this point, I no longer think it is worth mine. I notified the brewery, my retailer, and people here. Henceforward, I just won't buy the beer again.
