I love Boulevard and their coffee stout was one of the best I've had really. I haven't had the best time with Mexican spiced style stouts. I liked Huna, Abraxas, and Xoco but find them all a bit overhyped. I have a feeling I'll like this one more than all three.

Do you see any of our other Smokestack Series Limited Release beers? If so, it's likely you'll see Imperial Stout X - Aztec Chocolate.

If anyone reading this can help me get a bottle let me know. This style of beer makes me happy.

How long do these tend to hang around on the shelves? I'll be in KC at the end of July.

    I anticipate... Disappointment.

It will probably be long gone. Might stumble across one by chance or someplace off the beaten path, but I wouldn't count on it.

Agreed. I've loved all of the other Smokestack Series beers that I've tried and am so looking forward to this one.

You might run into it. In Iowa I sometimes run into smokestack series releases months after release, so you never know it'll just depend on how popular this beer gets.

    It's nowhere close to Abraxas.

I had coffee stout last night with some friends. It's still on the shelf in NC. Most of the Smokestack beers seam to sit on the shelf for a few months around here.

    Opened and here goes......

The nose is nothing overly special about it. Hints of yeasty bread and some hints of vanilla and cocoa. Not overly cloying or or heavy.

Poured like spent oil with a good brownish head that dissipated rather quickly. Carbonation rims the glass and laces it.

Mouth feel is rich, but a little thin. Coats very well as it should, being an IS.

Taste is pretty interesting. There is the Imperial Stout right in the for front with the burnt toast and coffee, toffies that one would expect, being rounded out with caramel, butter and a hint of cocoa all while hiding the 11% ABV very well.

After taste is pleasant yet still interesting caramel, peppery finish where the chiles are defiantly being brought into play. (the cinnamon? I seem to miss it unless it is playing with the chilies in the background, have to assume so. cause I'm missing it. ).

Thoughts: I love Imperial Stouts, And this is a pretty complex beer as I expected from the guys at Boulevard. Pretty sure I could drink this at room temp and find more flavors and enjoyment. It don't need to be served under 60 degrees for true enjoyment.

Glad I bought four bottles, so I can enjoy two now, and two in a couple years. Thanks Boulevard guys. Very happy.

Picked up a bottle yesterday at World Market of all places. I was surprised to see it as I thought bottles hadn't landed in StL yet. Looking forward to this beer
