Hence the word "constructive" in my post ... dissuading people or perhaps making people think twice about a purchase of limited rare beer will do little to nothing to affect their business or the community. Also, discussions like this don't need have a dramatic element nor do I see egos in play that much but it is the internet so posts get taken out of context and exaggerations might be used.

I think it is great if there is more push back on limited hyped beers that have a high price tag. I hope this a great beer for all that buy it but it won't stop people from griping about the situation and i'll still be vocal on the subject either way.

A team in first place dumping all of their assets is completely illogical and has never happened. A brewery releasing a barrel-aged beer at a premium price happens all the time.

It helps continue the cycle of high priced unproven mediocre beers and may convince others to jack up prices even further.

No, I got it. Thanks though.

My point was that regardless of it being their business decision, I have every right to have an opinion about it. Their business decision effects the community more than my opinion of their decision.

Sorry - don't spend much time on the forums, don't know the etiquette.

This is not just a brewery doing this ... the core business plan is not the collaborating brewery's from what I can see.

Impact on the craft beer world:
    • If the beer sells well because it is good, others will try the business model. Good and bad for craft beer. (More variation, but potentially higher prices.)
    • If the beer sells well because of the marketing, others will try the business model. Bad for craft beer.
    • If the beer doesn't sell well because it is not good, bad for the breweries involved, potentially bad for the craft beer world if customers are put off.
    • If the beer doesn't sell well because of the marketing, but the beer is good, bad for the breweries and bad for craft beer.

So the issue is with Pintley? Is there something about their model that is concerning? My only awareness of them before seeing this whole project was as an app I downloaded to get a sample at the Sam Adams brewery a couple months back.

One might guess the increased price is to cover some sort of payment/shared profit with pintley.

Nothing personal against them ... just that it could have been done by the breweries on their own. Let me know when I start sounding like a broken record.

When the homepage has one pane about about rarity, one pane about packaging, and nothing describing the beer, that's bad for craft beer.

Hard to argue that ... thankfully I agree. :grinning:

In the beginning of this whole craft beer thing it was all about the beer, the people behind it and enjoying it ... not about extreme exclusivity.

Yeah, seriously. I don't really see what's so hard to understand about why dudes like me don't like this. I don't really give a shit that two breweries collaborated on some beers and are selling them for >$20 each. That happens every goddamn day, and people whining about prices are far too late to stop it. What bothers me is the publicity push, the "slick" ad campaign, the involving a beer app to pimp the product. If I wanted to buy an ad campaign I'd drink fucking Bud Platinum, not a BA Saison. That's why this is stupid and that's why this is bad for craft beer.

You can argue that this position is overly idealistic hippie drivel, but I don't care. Craft beer needs ad campaigns like I need a third nipple.

This is a great idea and a solid business model. I wouldn't believe it was barrel aged without a portion of the barrel (duh). If only there was a way to incorporate my Julios Hold Card into the purchase of my barrel aged imperial saison I would be the rarez ticker king...

Hold up. What do you mean Cubs AND Astros? Are we dealing with a guy who has TWO favorite baseball teams? This explains everything.
