Been on the IPA train for a good while now and enjoying a IIPA in between and more often now....don't see a change in the near future. I honestly probably haven't a non pale ale beer since last year, literally

Impugning a style or generalizing can be dangerous. You just might miss out on something grand because you discriminated against something so vague and broad as a classification type.

I've been to RR's brewpub a couple of times but only had pliny on tap the last time I was there for the first time. It blew my mind. My contribution to this thread is an all hail pliny. It is the king of DIPAs.

IIPA in general is too sweet and boozy and syrupy for me. Never really liked them. Keep trying them but usually regret it. A few I like but none are a must have. IPA is still a favorite but I am getting more into saison, sour and barley wine in the cold months.

    Enjoy

I veer off to Bmc lite, and or a good Pils. Still don't have a taste for funk or sour.

Only bad Dipas are overly sweet and boozy, steer clear. Great IPAs and or Dipas are still really great stuff. Sounds like you had a Devil Dancer. Yuck.

Nothing worse than sweet, boozy and syrupy DIPA/IIPA for me too. I avoid IPAs over 8.5% or so these days for that reason.

No we all go thru some type of burnout phase. While on vacation I OD'd on Two Hearted and Jai Alai. It took me a whole 5 days to recover and start drinking IPA's again. Nothing like starting off the day with an IPA at 6:00 am watching the sun come up. By day 8 I ventured to the store to grab some VAS and Bell Java Stout to be more in line with a morning beer

I used to love IPAs and now I don't really like any of them aside from White Oak and Schlafly TIPA. Look on the bright side. You'll save money.

I actually like sours and DIPAs. I like to mix it up, drinking a IIPA followed by a sour, then back to a IIPA and so on and so forth. It really rocks my palate. I would say a lot of great tastes come from IIPAs but sweet has never been one that I would describe any IIPA as.

He said he now likes sours. Last time I checked (and I check daily) IPA's are a hell of a lot cheaper than most good sours, especially Belgians. Just asking because I am trying to figure out where the hell he is going to save any money! lol

Phases are normal. Since moving to California, I really miss the variety of styles I used to see every where on the east coast because breweries out here are so damn obsessed with their IPAs. I have to go to a speciality store or a big box liquor store like Total Wine to find much outside the world of pale ales, IPAs, and DIPAs. I love them, but variety is the spice of life as they say, and I like to drink a lot of different stuff.

I've just noticed that alot of new/seasonal releases are IPAs but I am more into sours now too and spend more money so yeah maybe you're right. Lol.
