I wonder if you can squeeze the neo GM 2.2 eco tech in a Saturn Sport Coupe? I will have to google that one.

Edit: I had a 94 Saturn Wagon with the 1.9 DOHC it was pretty quick for its time.

Well, I'll never have a Saturn again, so I suppose it's only a curiosity at this point.

I edited the first response, the 1.9 DOHC was quick in the early 90's

Rare Vos, (Sly Fox), pours a perfect copper color. It is cloudy with tons of sediment swirling around in the glass. There is a four finger fluffy white head which lasts; it took me two pours to get all of the beer out of the bottle and into the glass. There is surprisingly little lacing left after that giant head but that does not matter with this style.

The smell is pretty plain, caramel and yeast with some spices. There is also a hint of fruit in there.

The taste really comes alive with what tastes like champagne yeast with tons of caramel and sweet malts. Very biscuty and fruity along with spices. I can detect lemon grass and orange peel for sure but there are other mixed fruits in there as well. The feel is bready, thick and biscuty.

Overall, another winner from Ommegang as well as a good representation of the style.

Sounds like a bacon beer without bacon flavor, though compared to the Voodoo Doughnuts fiasco (yes, I've seen reviews that indicate it's not so bad aged - it was awful when fresh), that might be preferable, and I speak as someone normally friendly to all things bacon.

Yeah, the bacon is certainly there, it's just very subdued. I suspect if one were at a baconfest, eating and drinking various manner of things made with bacon, the collective amount would make the bacon in this beer more prominent.

Hello all! Odd weather day here in Milwaukee...Rainy morning - then sunny hot and humid, then cloudy and cool, and now it's looking nice outside - going to have more beer outside in the sun when done writing this!
I had to go to Target and other shopping and passed a beer bar...needed to do my shopping so I decided to "behave" and get a growler. I saw they had a beer from Nebraska Brewing Company. Well, I never had a beer from them, so decided to fill it up. It cost me about twenty bucks (not including the growler because I had already purchased that). Turns out - the growler was full of beer goodness. I hit the jackpot today...Nebraska Hopanomaly -French Oak Chardonnay Barrel-Aged.

Turns out I had an awesome day! Got the coffee machine at Target (my old one broke - not a pretty picture in the morning)...Had AWESOME beer - and got some sun and talking to good neighbors...The sun is back out - off to drink some more of this goodness!

True but if you tried to put that beast in one of today's vehicles.......well. At least you could see the ground through the engine compartment in those vehicles. I used to just like jump on top of the engine to do work. Ah those were the days!

I have read that there are many who cant taste diacetyl. I wonder if I am one of those people. Other than being a little "green" tasting, I actually like it. I will agree that it smells much better than it tastes either way, and I think the body is outstanding, but then again, probably where the creamy/buttery feel comes from.

Amen! This is another good session (like Fat Heads), but in the end it is still a session. Too watery. Isnt that what we all got away from in the first place? Imagine this beer in White Rajah ABV range (6.7, which is in my "session" range)

Well, you sampled 2 of the smaller breweries today. This one is actually pretty solid. I think everythjng they make is good. They just dont have anything exceptional. This one makes me wonder if they have ever had a west coast ipa though. It is an enjoyable beer, but not really sure what style it falls under.

Prolly my last NBS entry, but one is rarely certain, is one? Ghostfish is a newish Seattle brewery, that produces only Gluten-free brews. I was less than impressed with the Wit I tried last week on NBS, but I tried their Pale today anyway. A step better, but not a huge step: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/38813/157313/

Greetings NBSers! Been a while since I've had anything worthy of posting on this thread.

Went to the R&D release at New Glarus last week. Of course it was raining, doesn't it always rain when you're in line for beer? Fortunately, it was a short wait; Deb and Dan are very considerate of their fans, started the sale at 9:00 a.m.
Went for the 2014 Vintage, a gueuze, but they still had some of the Wild Bitter from last month’s release in the bottle shop. Heard very mixed reviews, but was interested to try it. (The gueuze is terrific, by the way!)

New Glarus Wild Bitter. A double IPA, 80 IBUs. Brewed with Wisconsin malts, Yakima, Citra and Sterling hops, aged nine months in Wild Fruit Cave, dry-hopped with Slovenian Savinjski hops, spontaneous secondary fermentation, and finally, a third fermentation in the bottle. 10% ABV.

Pours slightly opaque and golden-orange, the murkiness is probably the residual yeast. Has a thick, foamy head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is intense--the bright, complex hops and the brett funk play surprisingly well together. There are whiffs of orange, lemon and leather. It’s fresh and hoppy and musty all at the same time. The flavor is just as complex. The hop flavors manage to break past the brett, which results in an interesting bitter and acidic finish. Overall, a nice balance between juicy and earthy.

I'm enjoying this with a nice selection of equally funky cheeses--a very nice combination. Don't know that I'd enjoy this beer without food. Happily inside in the air conditioning binge watching the new season of Orange is the New Black. Life is good!

I took a seminar on tap and line cleaning last fall, and one of the by-products of dirty lines is Diacetyl. The guy giving the class purposely tainted some beers to show the effects of dirty lines. He told us "what you're about to taste is more Dicetyl than you will ever taste in the real world". I couldn't taste it at all. He explained that we all have "blind spots" in our palates, and that's not a prohibitive thing to doing accurate beer tasting, as long as you're aware of it. We're all special, unique, delicate flowers after all.

Re: diacetyl, it could be that you can't taste it. With smaller, newer breweries, though, batch variation is likely to be higher than with more established breweries. I wouldn't be shocked if the can you had was fine.

Yes, I thought the same of the "West Coast IPA." I thought it was pretty tasty, maybe a nice bright Summer ale. But I was definitely confused by the style.

I've noticed that @cavedave is very discriminating with his likes. I'm wondering if he can explain what formula he uses in determining who is "worthy" of a like and who is not. I'm legitimately curious as to what his methods are. What say you, @cavedave? What ya got me on your paynomind list, kid?

As promised, I broke out a beer from another high profile Vermont brewery. Hill Farmstead Dorothy. This definitely has an interesting taste. Here is a short and sweet review.

L: Pours a straw yellow color with a 2-3 finger head. This is no doubt from the farmhouse yeast.

S: The smell yields some zesty, lemony undertones that are characteristic of saisons. There is also some light tropical notes from the citra hops. In addition, some bursts of juiciness comes through as a result of the brett.

T: The zesty lemon is the first thing that comes knocking at my door. Next there's the light tropical flavors from the citra and lastly the brett comes through for the finish. Definitely an interesting flavor profile that I've never tasted in one beer before.

M: A light to medium mouthfeel that would make this perfect for a warm summer's eve. I'll have no problem polishing off this whole bottle. The alcohol, which is already quite low, is masked very well.

Overall: This is another world class beer from a world class brewery. A farmstead pale ale is definitely the right way to categorize this beer. It's like a mixture between a pale ale and a saison. Usually when breweries try to mesh styles together the results can be average. The dry-hopping addition of citra hops add a light, but necessary hop kick to this beer. The brett gives the beer this juiciness that you don't normally see in a saison, but the yeast makes the beer pretty dry. This is the enigma of Shaun Hill. Highly impressed and satisfied.
