Agreed 99%. Seems to me that consistency just ain't their thing. Sometimes you get a great can/bottle, sometimes you get a dud. Sometimes in-between.
My 1% disagreement is strictly limited to Hop Flood, Bikini Beer & Sour Bikini, which always seem to do it for me.

Thanks! Overall, it's a nice stout, though the chocolate notes were softer than expected. Bright and boozy with floral and dark ripe fruit notes.

Hot day, but thought I would go anyway with a chocolate-cherry milk stout.Average beer, nothing spectacular, alittle like a chocolate covered cherry, a little.........

Ballast Point Longfin lager (3.97). One of the better Helles, imo.

21st Amendment, Black on Black . Not bad. This beer is called a Black IPA I guess calling a brew a hoppy stout won't help sell it.

    Brilliant!
Dirtwolf is one hell of a brew.

    You dig on Dead Meadow?

A bit sludge-y compared to Wolfmother but definitely in the same wheelhouse.

Next, a 2013 FBS. They really vary on a by bottle basis. This one is pretty good, but I won't age beyond a year from now on...I bought 4 cases in 2013...do ya think I like FBS? LOL

Third from my "let's try weird new beers" mixed six-pack. I was going to wait until the weekend, but hey, I'm off work today and don't have much else to do, so...

Here goes a weird one: Midas Touch from Dogfish Head, the beer based on beer traces found in an Ancient Greek tomb. This is my first Dogfish Head beer (yeah, somehow haven't gotten around to trying the 60 or 90 Minute IPAs even though I see them in the stores around here a lot lately.) I've always found the idea of the "ancient ales" series to be really interesting, so of course I had to try one at some point, and this was the one that my local beer/wine store had available in 12-ounce bottle size (I did spot the Chinese one and I think one other in bombers, however.)

Looks, appropriately for the name, clear and golden and shiny. Very fizzy bubbles on top, and a lot rising up from the bottom too, though the foam on top shrinks fairly quickly (still a ring around the outer edges and a few little "islands" left now, but it's mostly gone.) Smells... well, there's some of a bready sort of thing, some sweetness (honey?), some "beery" sorts of smells. Maybe a faint "musty spice" sort of thing, like when you open an old spice cabinet with the lingering smells of spices that have been stored in there for eons.

Tastes... well, the honey is definitely present in there. That's the first thing I pick up on every sip here. Sweet but not-sweet at the same time, if that makes any sense -- doesn't feel sweet and sticky, but the flavor is on the sweeter side. Definite alcohol warmth on the first drink (no surprise there, given that this is the highest-ABV beer I've ever had!), but it seems my mouth adjusted to that pretty quick because I don't get much of that afterward. A little fruity, I'm assuming that's the grapes or a yeast thing or some of both? As I get halfway through the glass, it's definitely seeming more grapey and... actually a bit flowery, interestingly enough. Never picked up a flavor in beer that reminded me of flower smells before (the "floral hops" many people mention have so far evaded me... the hoppy beers I've had have all tasted piney or grassy or leafy/herbal or spicy or fruity to me, so far) but there's definitely something along those lines here. So I'm guessing the fruity flavor going on is a grape/honey thing? Noticing a bit of faint lingering breadiness and sometimes a honey-like thing after I've drank a little under half of the glass. Also a little bit of something that reminds me of grape skins here and there. I don't know if I've ever actually had saffron so I can't say if I'm tasting any of that here.

Overall, this is a really interesting beer. Not quite like anything I've had before, unsurprisingly considering the story behind it. Most closely reminds me of some of the paler Belgian-style beers I've had, but even that's nowhere near an exact match, none of those had anything that grapey/flowery flavor that builds up more and more toward the later half of the glass like this does. I'm not 100% sure that I like that feature of this beer (sometimes it's kinda nice, other times it borders on overwhelming), though it's certainly interesting. Pretty good overall -- I don't know if I'd want a full six-pack (or does this even come in six-packs? I know some of the more expensive Dogfish beers are 4-packs) but I'd certainly pick up a single bottle or two again if I felt like having something different.
