That's interesting. Pabst is definitely claiming that they only recently acquired it. Posting links is frowned upon here, but it is a Boston Globe article that was published recently.

Edit: Not a debate @UTvols05, I'm interested and certainly willing to listen. However, I won't lie about the fact that I like it.

I read 2.5 pages of it in beer talk and it was much less civilized conversation. That thread probably has most of what you're looking for if interested in reading more

found the trademark application that @lateralusbeer was referencing and it definitely seems to be indicative that they are a bunch of lying pricks.

My understanding is Pabst acquired it from Innovative Brewing/Four Loko.

The trademark evidence is pretty damning. For a product that's been discussed so much here, good and bad, it's interesting that the first review didn't go up until months after a Four Loko subsidiary had trademarked the name.

Also, the official brand name is just "Not Your Father's." Get ready for Not Your Father's Cream Soda, Cheerwine, etc...

This is where I was lost, I thought Pabst also owned Innovative Brewing. Now it all makes sense.

(FYI, I emailed the aforementioned Globe story author with some more I had, and he said it was his belief that PBR purchased the brand from Phusion Products, which is another Four Loko/Innovative subsidiary).

What I read sounded more like it was a Blue Moon-esque 'in-house' brewery, but I really hope wish you were right.

I assume you posted this before reading follow-up posts. I was definitely not right.

Innovative was an arm of Phusion/Four Loko that was launched in mid 2013....right around when it filed the trademark for "Small Town Brewing."

Correct. Edited. I'll go on record saying I've enjoyed it, though I'll qualify it with: in small doses, and with not enough drive to revisit to swallow my "am I really drinking something made by Pabst?" reflex.

I second the forewarning about Not Your Father's Cream Soda etc... In another thread I saw someone postulate an Orange Soda version, which I'm sure will be coming soon as well.

See @UTvols05, conversations in the BIF forum are much more civilized, which is why I hang out here. We actually look at evidence and come to informed decisions.

I am a bit embarrassed as I shared it with family and friends and called it an ale. I admittedly would not have stood behind it if I knew it was a 4 loko company's malt beverage with artificial flavors added

Ditto. Fortunately in my case the friends with whom I shared it are (give-or-take) the demo they're looking for, and potentially already customers of their other brands, and were unlikely to become craft converts anyway. I wish I had taken the opportunity to share a real craft brand, but I'm at least not as embarrassed as I could be.

At least, not in comparison to 4Loko....

Sorry to interrupt this NYFRB thread with pROn but i'ma do it anyways. Two large boxes from @UTvols05 landed today:

First off a growler of Red Hare Root Beer for my kids. Kyle must have been listening because my oldest son is a craft root beer maniac and is already pumped after I sent him a pic of this!

    Extra's:

Humbolt Brewing Black Xantus - Had this long ago, my favorite style and rated it pretty hight so I'm happy to have another
Burnt Hickory Big Shanty - Graham cracker stout? How the hell was this not on my wants list?
Wild Heaven Emergency Drinking Beer (x2) - Pilsner/Gose hybrid, will be perfect for the cook-out/pool party Saturday, sweet can design as well.
Cigar City Jai Alai (x2) - Will never turn down fresh Jai Alai.
Westbrook Gose (x2) - See not about Jai Alai Above.
Halls Defense/Mentos Noise Makers - Sweet bonus extra!
Cigar City/Evil Twin Columella - Never heard of this one, sounds interesting.
Bear Republic Mach 10 - Sounds tasty!
Cigar City Tocobaco - Can't believe I've never had this, wasn't a want either, cool!

And now for the 12 days:

Yes that's actually 18 beers for 12 days, hot damn Kyle, can't wait to see what's in these. I feel like I should be really pumped for the swing-top growler for some reason based on your comments but I have no idea what it is...

Back to your regularly scheduled NYFRB discussion.....

Has your son had the Cape May Brewing Rootbeer? If not, I can rectify that this weekend and send you a growler.

He has not, is that something that's readily available so that we can call that a favor for a future time though?

Holy cow @dmbforever I got a couple hours off work this afternoon so I stopped home. Nothing. As I was running late heading back up there I almost tripped over what I assume is my 12 days box. That thing was heavy as this NYFRB conversation.

Also my apologies @JNForsyth. Kyle sent me a message asking if I knew your son's name. Of course I do, it's Thomas. It didn't dawn on me until right now it probably isn't your infant son Thomas that likes root beer. Apologies all around.
