NBS X-Post! This weekend I had a wedding for one of my fraternity brothers, so I got to see a few people that I haven't seen in 3-4 years minimum. It was in Clinton Twp, MI; but everyone I knew in the grooms side was from Fort Wayne, IN; so as a result not a overwhelming large turnout of people I knew, but not too bad. I just happen to live 30 minutes from where the Bride's family lives, and that was where it was held. Anyways, it was good to catch up with them.

Yet another restock of new beers this week with the passing of my Birthday, so my Cellar is nearly the fullest capacity it has been yet. Glad so many new things have been coming along. Hideout brewing basically released 20-30 different bombers in the span of 3-4 weeks, so I have plenty of those to go through. A majority of them are spice/fruit combos of sorts, so they should be interesting.

So now onto the new beers of the day:

Very nice IPA. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, mango, pineapple, peach, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine; with some light caramel/toasted bread malts and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine/citrus rind bitter finish. Smooth and sticky/resinous mouthfeel with a touch of bready creaminess. Very drinkable. No astringency from bitterness despite the resinous attributes. I randomly picked up a 6 pack today, because it is fresh and I never see fresh Green flash anymore; and also because it said Citra/Simcoe/Cascade so I was on board with that. Very well done, but only recommended if you like sticky/piney IPAs.

A very tasty pale wheat ale. Aromas and flavors of lemon, pear, apple, lavender, honey, wheat, cracker, floral, grass and yeast earthiness. Zero hop or spice bitterness on the finish; great balance between fruity yeast, malt/honey, and lavender spice. Very drinkable, flavorful, and robust. Medium carb/body; moderate amount of wheat creaminess in the mouthfeel. Really enjoyable, though I would have liked to see a bit more complexity from the American wheat yeast; this was overall pretty clean with fairly restrained fruitiness. I'd still drink this again. Very flavorful, balanced, and easy going.

This is a Farmhouse IPA featuring Chinook, Citra, Topaz, Centennial, and Mandarina hops. This was realllly damn delicious. Aromas and flavors of big lemon zest, tangerine, grapefruit, orange peel, pear, apple, peppercorn, pine, wheat, bread, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of peppery yeast spice and a bit of piney/grassy bitterness on the finish. Very smooth and crisp finish with good carbonation; great all around yeast and hop flavor balance with good pale malt presence. A touch of hop stickiness is present in the mouthfeel after the finish. This was just all around excellent. A saison yeasted Belgian IPA with near perfect balance of yeast and hop character all around.

We took a bus out of Princeton, which is bout 30 min from me ... but couldn't pass it up ... Had 65 dollar bleacher tickets and they only charged us 90 per person which included that ticket ... so like I told momma ... we couldn't drive in for 50 bucks. but then the damn bus driver got Lost ... we ended up clear over by ohare ... WTF almost 2 hours to get out of the city ... on her crazy scenic route. But Had plenty of Refreshments to keep my spirits up .. and was riding high on the cubs win. Lena is not to far from me ... Haven't been very impressed with anything they have put out so far. but they are brand new.. Hope you enjoyed yourself .... Congrats to your Daughter

Sorry, wrong town. I just looked at my receipt. I found it at the Liquor Shed in Casper WY. I traveled from Cheyenne to Billings that day and stopped at a lot of stores.

I am aware of what they are called but Saturn is more of an Old Ale than a barleywine in flavor IMO. Very little hop presence in Saturn. Right from Bell's "Saturn is a bourbon barrel aged barleywine loaded with notes of toffee, caramel, oak and vanilla that finishes with a warming touch." Similar notes to what I taste in BWB.

Okay, but Backwoods Bastard is a Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy. So, you're still comparing two different styles.
