Thanks for the thoughtful reply.....I drink marzens, bocks and pumpkin beers (and just about anything else!) kinda whenever the mood strikes me.....seasonal creep be damned! I am also a "PBA" (pumpkin beer advocate) and a BA as well......just strikes me strangely how some here think pumpkin beers are not cool, hipster, manly, or whatnot...enough for them, so they feel the need to hate on them....pretty silly....it is a very very popular seasonal beer, and more and more come out each year due to that popularity.....folks need to "slow their pumpkin roll" (see what I did there?) a bit and just relax!

Yep. We have it for sale at the breweries now, and started shipping on the west coast yesterday. The east coast starts shipping on the 27th.

We've done small-scale pumpkin beers in the past. Personally, I'm not a fan of spiced pumpkin beers, but I don't mind the versions brewed with pumpkin that use the flesh as adjunct and do something else with the flavor, but I am not a fan of the sticky-sweet pie styles.

And I'm sure you haven't tasted it, have you..?

Reading the info on the web site, I'd find it terribly interesting to hear the process of the creation of this beer with Riegele; from concept to recipe to inception to brewer's impressions of the final product. Any chance of hearing that?

Nice! I already expect a SN german-style lager to be good, but given that I was born in Augsburg, this is extra special for this guy.

So I pose the real question now: How is it...? It just showed up at my store, but I'm a little weary of Oktoberfest styles.

Picked up a sixer today bottled 07/09/15 in Santa Cruz for the normal non sale price of $8.49. I'll crack one or 2 open later today.

I visited Riegele brewery back in 2013 and it's an awesome place. They have a smaller, beautiful brewing set dedicated to experiemental/collaborative/American style beers and all of their beers that's I tried were great. Weihenstephan gets all the fame for being the oldest brewery but Riegele is actually the oldest brewery to be continually owned by the same family. The more you know

Can you please share more specifics about Riegele brewery? What brands of beers did you drink? What were you impressions of each of these brands?

I have not had a single beer from Riegele and I would like to learn more.

    Cheers!

P.S. I have had a number of Weihenstephaner brands of beers and I have greatly enjoyed all of those beers.

The brewery's been around since 1384, in 1884 it was bought by the Riegele family and they expanded it. They do a lot of traditional (Bavarian brews) like Pils, Bocks, various forms of Weissbier, Helles/Dunkles and I think they started their "Brauspezalitäten" series (which is a series of more "modern" brews in 0.65 bombers, 3 different varieties of Bock, a Kellerpils, a RIS, a porter, a Belgian triple and an IPA) sometime in the 2000s. They're also comparatively reasonably priced at around 4€/bomber if you look at what some others cost.

I've had the Dulcis 12 (Belgian triple), the Amaris 50 (Kellerpils), their Dunkel and their regular Bock - all of which I liked so far. I still have their RIS and their Porter lying around which I will probably try at some point in the next few months.

I am looking forward to this beer also, but I will not be buying it in early August and storing on it until mid-September. I hope they still have some left when it is in season.

Weary, or wary? And why? Whatever the correct adjective meant. Oktoberfest Märzen (particularly the traditional Amber Märzen) is my favorite style of beer, but I can understand being "wary" of American attempts at the style, most just don't get it right. Some might say this is a new rendition of the style, much like American Pale Ale or American IPA -- or even American Barleywine, but that matters not to me because I like the flavor of a well made Bavarian Märzen, not the weak attempts often made by U.S. breweries.

To that, I'm pretty excited that SN has teamed with a Bavarian brewery to create this new beer. It will be fun to taste the results.
