Let me explain. I believe that as I have had more and more different craft beers and my taste has become more refined, I might not have been fair or knowledgable enough to give what I think are fair ratings to beers that I may have had many months ago. As long as the beer was memorable and still in my mind, do you think it is ok to go back and change some ratings. I am not doing this because everyone else was way higher or lower than me, just feel that I may have not rated properly. Your thoughts ??

I'd say that if you go back and drink another beer of the same type under similar conditions, there's no reason you couldn't change that rating to reflect your opinion of the beer.

I don't see why not, if you have a review and not just a points rating I would just add why you edited you score.

I wouldn't do it without having the beer again at the time of the re-review. Your memory can play tricks on you, and you may as well do it right.

I agree, it's best to drink the beer again if you're considering reassessing. But truth be told, the rating is yours to control and you can do whatever you want with it.

It is fine, but I wouldn't change it. I enjoy having my initial (honest) record of a beer the first time I tried it. It also is fun to see how tastes change. If you re-record over it, you wont be able to look back.

I think that a review is a reflection of your experience, with that beer, at that time, in that place. A snapshot, if you will. If it's a beer that you can get, and try a couple more of, then adjust it. Otherwise, my vote would be to let it stay.

Out of curiosity, do think you rated the beer too high, or too low?

I have done it a couple of times after having a different beer immediately after that made me realize I was being picky, but not without redrinking otherwise.

When I revisit a beer, I will look at my rating, change if needed and add a review. When I first started here, I didn't trust my taste buds or descriptors, so I just rated.

Then no. You've changed. Beers change. The entire dynamic is different now. If you drink the beers again, take notes (without looking at your old review before), then compare them. If they're drastically different, then adjust. Maybe you haven't changed as much as you thought, or maybe you've changed more.

I've also had a few beers, and in this case probably less than 5, where later reflection indicates I was either too favorable or unfavorable in one or more scores, based on the experience. In particular, with a couple disappointments I realized, after having a couple similar beers from the brewery that I scored more favorably, that the beers were simply not scored harshly enough based on how unhappy I was with the beer in question.

Personally, I only review a beer that I am drinking while I am reviewing. I 'm not saying I won't enter data based on my notes. But I never change a rating or my notes after the fact.

Bias is hard enough to fight while drinking a beer, afterwards, all bets are off.

As for evolving taste, it comes with the territory. The way I see it each beer is a different experience. Different batch, different handling, exact brewing conditions and ingredients can vary, environmental conditions, serving temperature, glassware used, condition of your palate, and yes your evolving taste and bias.

If you think your past rating was off, why not revisit the beer and give it a fair shake.

And always be mindful that personal bias is a powerful force.

I agree with only reviewing a beer when your drinking it. Also with only re-reviewing a beer if you are drinking it again. My taste has changed significantly and I will only review if I'm drinking a beer now and its the right conditions. For example I held a bottle of Pliny for a friend who didn't come to get it for months and I tried it and wasn't impressed with the taste but didn't review since it wasn't fresh. I've probably drank at least 100 more beers than I have reviewed on here I just didn't have the app at the time. Its not the end of the world if you don't review a beer.

I let the rating sit until I have the opportunity to try it again. Sometimes that second rating is quite a bit different than your original. That being said, if you want to change your rating, change it. It's really not that serious.
