@BottleCaps80 Its in the fall mixed pack. Should be popping up everywhere soon I'd imagine. I am not sure if it is getting released in kegs for distro.

Drinking the SN Oktoberfest right now. Crisp finish, complex malt profile (with some nice dark fruit notes), and gorgeous in the glass. Nice brew, and worth a try for something a little bit different!

Can you expand on your thoughts on Great Lakes? I love that beer and want to better understand the style and hear suggestions on truer examples. Thanks!

It's every bit as great as many have said. Just scored some today, following a killer bike ride. I'm a happy man bear now!!!

The Steffi is malted in the fashion of a pilsner malt. To me, when you chew the malt it has a distinct cracker flavor, like water crackers or Saltines without the salt. Riegele turned us on to Steffi and our guys are really in love with it. Damn expensive to get here in the states. It's about 3X more expensive than any other imported euro pils. On our pilot system here in Mills River we're doing an unfiltered open-fermented Keller Pils with 100% Steffi just to mess around with it. I'm stoked about the possibility.

Sheffield is the barley variety used. Just as Maris Otter is a barley variety. Hope this helps.

Definitely shows in the flavor of the beer -- and definitely different than any other German-style beer being brewed by a U.S. brewer.

Ahhh....at that time of that post, I think the link still showed last year's fall pack lineup (which included the Oktoberfest), so I figured it was the 2014 pack. Glad to hear it's coming back again this year. Such a great beer!

Steffi is the name of the barley varietal. It's an heirloom strain gaining a little traction in Germany, but not yet common by any means. The maltster in Riegele's hometown of Augsburg does a really nice job with the malt. We sourced some of ours from that maltster, and the balance from another German malt house.

Mainly, it's too sweet and has too much of that melanoidin honeyed biscuit thing going on (think Doppelbock minus the dark fruit). It is not attenuated enough (e.g. Dry enough) to be considered traditional. It is also far too high in alcohol to be on style. Basically it's just too much. It's still delicious, and no one is saying it isn't, but most German styles are about balance and crafting a beer perfectly in harmony with itself. GLBC Okto is just a bit too imbalanced in favor of sweetness.

I would say pick up Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, or Weihenstephaner for more classic takes.

Bless you Publix grocery stores here in Florida, picked up a six pack of SN Oktoberfest last night. Couldn't have picked a better American brewed Oktoberfest to kick the season off! It's going to be brats, sauerkraut and O'fest for dinner tonight!

I had s couple of bottles of this last weekend, and it a stellar American Oktoberfest beer! I need to pick up a six-pack or two before it's gone! (I can't believe I just typed that, considering it's only August 6th!)

Speaking of Publix, our local had a Fall Pack for sale this morning. Plenty 6's of Okto, but I'm still working my way through the first fantastic 6 I got last week. Hoping for a 12, if they get to FL.

Read how excited people were about this beer on this thread, and found a sixer at Trader Joe's. First oktoberfest-bier I've had in years!! It was well worth it. Delicious take on this style, Sierra Nevada with another hit!
