I really like PBR and Budweiser for the style.

I did some research, looking for "Have you ever actually seen a bottle/can with the labeling of "Schlitz Gusto Beer" to differentiate it from the 'regular' Schlitz bottles/cans?"
    at: https://www.google.com/search?q=Sch...SqiccCFZQakgodJO8D3w&biw=1280&bih=640#imgrc=_

I can find the word "Gusto" being used, but not on any can or bottle. Good call!

Some are okay, but I normally tend to focus my beer drinking on something with a little more flavor. They are purposely brewed to have a light flavor and definitely have found a large audience. I've drank my fair share of them over the years and never found them to be offensive. I just usually only enjoy a couple beers in a sitting and want to maximize that enjoyment. AALs just don't seem to fill that void for me.

I'll just add that the topic seems to be 'cheap beer', and there are times when I'll take off the beer geek hat and just go with the moment . If it didn't taste good, or had off flavors, then I definitely wouldn't get very much pleasure from it no matter the price. In this case I look at DAB as a beer that's priced in between AALs and the basic imports (like Stella), and gives me much more enjoyment than either, so it's a particularly good value in that context. Cheers!

I don't drink it on a regular basis but I do pick up a 12ver every couple of months. Cali Lager can not be beat though.

There is a big difference in that regard, too, living in Germany vs the US. When I left Germany, Weihenstephaner's Hefe Weissbier Hell was €0,75 for a 500 ml bottle. Rothaus Pils, Faust's beers, and others were probably priced similarly. Schlenkerla's Märzen was about €0,90 for a 500 ml bottle, so the value in buying something like DAB is pretty much lost.

Lord Chesterfield Ale is a good AAL as well as Yuengling's Lager. Red Stripe, not really from Jamaica, is another good one. However I normally avoid AAL's; most of them taste like soap or worse.

I really am not a fan of any lagers, except real German Octoberfests and Mai Bocks and Dopplebocks and those Americans who successfully emulate them. Other than that, I haven't liked too many in a long time.

My beer club and I just had a meeting where the theme was crappy American lagers. In attendance, in descending order of quality were:
    1) Narragansett (most balance and smoothest flavor)
    2) Schlitz (best hop profile)
    3) Sam Adams Boston Lager (best overall mix of flavors and still a serviceable beer)
    4) Pabst Blue Ribbon (a bit sweeter than the rest which makes it stand out, and tied with...
5)Yuengling (The breaking point where the list starts to go downhill)
    6) Rolling Rock (Not as good as it used to be, by a long shot)
    7) Budweiser (Not good, but drinkable)
    8) Miller High Life (Champagne of Beers? Cheap fizzy New Jersey White Wine of Beers at best)
    9) Michelob Ultra (Which is better: bad flavor or none at all?)
    10) Natty Bo (To answer the previous question, I wish this pee bomb had less flavor...)

Is Sam Adams Boston Lager an AAL? Isn't it a Vienna Lager?
I haven't had a lot of them. If they're anything like some of the macro lagers up here, then I'll take a rain check.
Although, Narrangansett's Bock, Shiner Bock and Yuengling seem to be considered pretty drinkable and rather tasty.

Boston Lager is all malt and therefore not an AAL.

It some places they classify Boston Lager as being a Vienna Lager. IMO it is too highly hopped to fit the Vienna Lager style. IMO it should be considered as an American Amber Lager.

    Cheers!

I pretty much am recycling a post I made earlier in a different thread with a similar topic:

"AAL's are like chuck steak: they're both available anywhere for $4 per 16 oz; but when served properly, they're both things of beauty."

-Me; I just made that shit up.

How can you include SA Boston Lager in a "crappy American lager" list? And then give it 3rd place?
    WTF.
It's way ahead of all the AAL brews you mentioned. It's not even in the same league.
It's an all-malt hoppy brew (more than double IBU of all the beers mentioned)
