Here's what I'm thinking: every now and then you just a buy a random beer and it totally blows you away. Sure, it's all relative, but let's get the word out on some stuff you've had, that you don't think everyone will have had, but that you think will surprise/delight.

    Two rules:
    1) the beer cannot be on BA's list of Top 100 beers (because anyone can see that list).
    2) the beer cannot be a one-and-done deal that'll never be seen again (this isn't suposed to be a mean, make-you-feel-bad-because-you-missed-out thread).

I'll start off with two I've had in the past 2 days - these are both beers that will appeal to the Belgian beer and pale ale fans.

    Orval
OMG, why didn't I try this sooner? If you like Belgians or pale ales, this is a must. This is a top 100 beer that just happens not to the in the top 100. Super smooth and classy. One of the few true Trappist ales I've had, and great.

    3 Monts
France's answer to Duvel. Again, if you like pale ales or Belgians, this is a must. I'll admit, I didn't see this around before this month (out here on LI), but it just made my day. So clean and crisp and delicious, but with a smoothness and airiness. Technically a biere de garde (per BA) - it is a beautiful beer.

Baxter Brewing (Maine) Stowaway IPA. It's in a can. When it's fresh it's one of the best IPAs I've had.

As I stated in another thread:
Anything Pipeworks! I don't believe any of their beers are 1 and done and they've ranged in quality from above average to world class IMO. Not a bad beer in the bunch

Orval is on the beers of fame list, and I don't think there are many BAs here who are unaware of it, especially considering it's one of the very few trappists.

Mine would be Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Wild. I wasn't expecting it to be bad, but that beer blew me away. I just wanted to drink it until I threw up and then drink some more.

Repping the Southwest threads here and a few come to mind.

    Jester King's Boxer's Revenge - a barrel aged wild
(512)'s Pecan Porter - just the regular one is perfect and often $2.50 to $3 a pint here

Troegs Perpetual IPA - Probably one of the most drinkable IPAs I've ever had, and it has enough of a citric hop base to make this one a winner. What truly sets it apart is its nicely subtle pilsner-esque malt backbone, that gives it an incredible smoothness to it. I could truly drink a (fresh) 6-pack of this in a single sitting, which is something I rarely ever do. I thought it would be pretty good, but it ended up blowing my mind. Incidentally, I thought a bomber of (questionably fresh, to be fair) Sculpin would blow my mind, but that ended up being just pretty good.

This has been posted about ad infinitum recently, but Green Flash's Rayon Vert is a really nice, readily available beer. (OP: if you haven't had it, it's an excellent U.S. craft interpretation of/homage to Orval...a real rarity (!) in my book.)

I've been loving Jolly Pumpkins stuff, especially Madrugada Obscura, Dark Dawn Stout. Tastes like a porter with sour notes for me. I actually don't know if I like this or The Bruery's Tart of Darkness. I'd have to try them together.

North End Tavern's 5 Way IPA. I had it on tap yesterday waiting on my food, I thought it was fantastic.

Was just going to say the same thing about Orval. I think the beers on the beers of fame list are likely more well known than the beers on the top 100 list.
