I guess I might be the only one who didn't like this beer. Amazed given the circumstances. I think SN does great lagers, I love marzens and I prefer the lighter, more delicate imported versions than the bolder American takes. But something about this beer tastes cheap to me. Tough seeing as I broke my own hard rule of never buying a 12 pack of a beer you haven't had before. I'll stick to my Ayingers.

Finally found some in my neck of the woods. I had to ask for it as they had it hidden in the back.

Try the two side by side (I mentioned this before), but I think you'll be surprised. While the Ayinger is a little more bready, the SN is more crackery and the hops may be stronger, but I think they're pretty close.

I agree. Anyone who is taking the German purist POV is missing out

Well, I wouldn't go that far, it's a great take on the style following the Bavarian pattern. The Hops may just be a little more prominent, but nothing like SN's 2014 Okto.

I finally got around to trying it this weekend, and I'd put it damn near squarely in the pale O'fest camp, myself- maybe a touch more hoppy, but not so much that it gets thrown out of category.

I'm really pleased to see such a positive reaction to this beer- I guess that means that the US is ready for the pale O'fest style. Can we get rid of all of the heavy caramelized ones, now?

How am I going far by suggesting that ignoring the beer because it is not German is a mistake? Seems like an inappropriate response...especially since you like it

I do like it, but I don't think it's as far from German (purist, of which I almost always am with this style of beer) in style as you seem to be suggesting.
Exactly what I'm saying, though it is a little deeper in color than the popular Wies'n Märzens out there -- very much like Ayinger.

I may have misunderstood you too, but I'm glad we're on the same page -- the new SN Okto is a great beer.

Had it on Friday. Outstanding. Well done by SN, as usual.

This is incredibly good stuff. I grabbed a sixer a few nights ago and decided to go back the next day and buy a case.

I got a 6 pack recently (was the last one on the shelf) and I am enjoying this beer quite a bit!

Finally grabbed some myself. Love it. Lived in Germany for seven years, visited the Munich fest twice and the Stuttgart fest more times than I can remember. If you blindfolded me and asked me if this was a German Märzen, I'd say "of course it was". Much much more satisfying than any other American "Oktoberfest" beer I can think of.

On my second 6er of this and am thinking of grabbing a case before it disappears. How long do you people think this could be cellared for???!?
