Im shipping a rather heavy box - (11) 12 oz cans + (2) 12 oz bottles + (1) 16 oz can - and due to weight, I am going to ship via large flat rate box in USPS. Understandably, there's sloshing (vertical except 2 cans and bottles) and I am doing box in box and have it packaged very well, I'm not worried about leakage/breakage. But due to the sound, those that ship USPS, do you usually answer yes to the "is there liquid inside" question or proceed with no? I have said no in the past but there was no major sloshing sounds for those.

I know this doesn't help you but I ship Fedex, preprint my label, drop off at the store and never have to answer any sort of this question. Good luck.

Yea I have a second box going out that I'll be using fedex/pre-print but due to the weight, that's why I'm using the flat rate box.

No worries. Not sure how much flat rate is but I can't imagine that box being much more than $16-18 to ship via Fedex (I use box in box method using 14x14x14 on the outside box all the time). I ship the same ounces or more and never get charged more than that anyway. Sorry to disrupt your thread. Hopefully someone can chime in with some UPS advice.

No worries. Thanks for the input. I did the quick estimate just now on fedex (didn't ask for dimensions) (15lbs) and it would be about $3 more to ship w them than USPS.

Is the 3$ worth the hassle?

I'm certain you're asking rhetorically, but in case the OP has any hesitations ... the answer is no. Pack it tight, print your FedEx label online, drop it off, and walk out of the store with way more peace of mind.

I'm not sure if you checked with or without logging in, but in case you did the estimate without logging in, there's a discount if you have an online account. So the $3 difference could actually be less.

Or if you did log in, then please disregard this post.

Tell them it's a gallon of warming personal lubricant. That should put an end to the questions.

I would only use USPS when shipping to Alaska or Europe. If you feel the need to check the liquids box call it maple syrup, soda, or something along those lines.

    Good luck!

Ended up just printing the label and dropping it off and walking out. Did it about 6 hours after the FedEx package and USPS is actually scheduled to get there a day before which is nice!

Surprised nobody mentioned that USPS is a federal institution. I'm no law expert, but using USPS to ship alcohol doesn't seem like a great idea. I really don't know if anyone has gotten in trouble over it, but I wouldn't take the chance. Using FedEx/UPS seems like a much safer bet.

USPS delivered this box to me two weeks ago.

The guy didn't even get a warning letter or call.

I also had a bottle break with them and they just had the guy go to the PO and pick up the rest of the bottles. I use them often, no worries.

I've use flat rate boxes For coast to coast trades, 8 cans of heady couple extras, vt to ca in 2-3 days for about $15, nobody is faster. I'm always waiting another 5 days before the FedEx box heading my way arrives. Trade partners always happy. Technically it's not legal to ship beer via ups or fedex either..

Just saved $20 shipping out of a large flat rate USPS box $17 instead of $37.... Way easier as long as precautions are taken.... And also faster

Since I live in Alaska, hypothetically, I would use the automated teller. Easy to press whatever button you want and then drop it into the bin yourself without interacting with anyone.

For a large box, in theory, I wouldn't go more the 2 bombers plus two 12 oz cans. I would be surprised if a corked 750 would fit, but I bet a capped 750 would be OK. I'd suspect I'd be nervous puttin 14 bottles / cans in 1 box - might split that up into at least 2 boxes.

Never had a hassle with USPS, and I am the one who shipped that box above. Funny thing was, box was undamaged and I did double bag the contents, but when you have a bad top and the entire growler leaks out I guess than can happen. I had a box come to me through USPS that had two cans totally smashed. They also lost the box for awhile so by the time it go to me it was good and stinky...they just put it in a plastic bag and delivered it. Now, the smashed cans and lost box...not good...but as far as getting in trouble, no worries.

So is there a legal option to ship beer as an individual?
